The grips will fit. The barrels I think will, although I am not sure the actual length is the same or not. Like you said the shrouds are very different.
The internals on the older model 12 are a bit different than the 15-2. But don't let that stop you, buy it anyway!

BobAk, I think barrel will fit with the recessed barrel nut. Lonwolf is right, lengths are different but the problem is the sights might not work. Best to buy a 15-2 also. The hand spring wraps around the transfer bar instead of through a small hole in a 15 . Took me a dozen times before I figured it out. Ole Dog

The barrel itself will interchange & the lengths are the same, it's the recessed nut Porkchops that have a shorter barrel. Obviously the shroud will not work between a 12 & 15-2. Grips will interchange, as previously mentioned. And also as mentioned, many of the internals will not interchange.

Thanks for the information.
I'll be checking out the W12 this weekend. Looking at the pics it appears to be in decent shape.
4" barrel (external nut)
Plain grip (no medallion?)
Original warranty card and box (in rough condition) May 1971 Ser # 4***
Leather holster, leather 12 cartridge holder, 2 speed loaders.
He's firm at $400. I think it's a bit high but ......... I have two 15-2's so I probably should add this to the collection?
Anyone have 2" and 6" barrel assemblies at a fair price?
Do replacement barrel nuts exist??

Yes, it should look very much like this...

Nope, no medallion.

Depending on the condition, to me, $400 isn't off the mark as long as it's in good condition.
Do replacement barrel nuts exist??
No. Not even when six planets line up one magical day...it's still a firm NO.

Thanks again!
Hopefully it's ok to continue this thread with a few more questions. If not let me know and I'll use PM.
Re: Pork chop shrouds
If later models had recessed barrel nuts, are the shrouds different from the external nut shrouds?
Is there an easy way to identify this when looking at pictures? Possibly the front sight is different?

Well it depends. On the gun you obviously see the exposed nut, off the gun you would need to see the muzzle end of the shroud to see the recess, or lack of. I also believe there will be a length difference but not anything noticeable without a tape measure. One of the pork aficionados may be able to shed more light.

You're fine by continuing the discussion here.
As LB stated, if the shroud is off the gun, you would need to look at the muzzle end to determine which it is. An exposed nut shroud is flat on the end, while the recessed one is not. The shroud length between the two is the same, but the barrel length on the recessed one is 1/4" shorter. This thread may help explain this;
https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/reference-files/barrel-differences-porkchop-vs-model-15-2/
An exposed nut shroud will belong to a model 11 or 12, while a recessed nut shroud means it's for a model 14 or 15. The front sight is shorter on the 11 & 14, due to the rear sight being fixed & not adjustable on the frame. The later 14-1 & 15-1 had even shorter front sights due to a change in the rear sight configuration.
These shrouds are all able to interchange with each other, so it's fairly common to see a mismatched frame & BA combo for sale. If you are looking to buy one but aren't sure if everything matches, post up a couple & we can help get it sorted out here.
