For those of you that enjoyed nascar in the late 60s early 70s you will know what this car is.

1969 dodge Daytona. After 10 years 2 back surgeries and a shattered shoulder this year I finally have it all bolted together and started for the first time. Still have a lot of work to finish it but it's all down hill now.

this was a complete ground up rotisserie restoration that my son and I have been doing.

now I will have a very fast car to get me to the range.

if you would like to see a few videos of it running for the first time go to YouTube and search for

69 Daytona pandalicious

that is what my wife calls it and she puts up with me and all the crazy money I spent building it so she can call it what she wants.

That is VERY cool, way to go!occasion I have yet to do a rotisserie resto on a car, but sure do appreciate the time and dedication it takes to do one. I notice in the video that it's much easier to reach the front of the engine on your car without the nose on, isn't it?big-grin

I have two projects that I plan to slap on a rotisserie, that have been on the back burner for years...a '66 F100 (my first vehicle as a kid) & a '70 Charger. I will get to them one day, hopefully sooner than later.

Here's a shot of the Charger from it's daily driver days. This was around 1989.

This is a more current pic, it's garage queen days. This is an annual trip to the end of the driveway for a bath.lol2

AWESOME!!  occasion

I really like it in the white!  About 25 years ago at one of my first jobs, The man living behind the shop had 2 of them side by side in the garage! A orange on and a green on! Wonder where they are now?

Very cool, Daytona! I messed around with muscle cars when I was younger so I have a good idea of the work you have put into it already. Always wanted to do a real restoration like that but I never did end up with anything that got nearly finished. Shoot us some pics or another video when you get the nose on and everything!

I built it with my son with plans to run it at Bonneville salt flats to try and get in the 200 mph club, but wanted it for a driver also, the rules made running it at Bonneville out of my price range so it's good enough for the Silver state races.

engine is a 440, 9.8 comp. 525 lift cam, balanced, blue printed ported heads with large valves, automatic with gear vendors over drive, 4 link rear suspension and magnum force tubular front suspension with coil over on all four corners, heavy sub frame connectors 3" stainless exhaust,  still have tourist the belly pan and finish the rear diffuser for better aero and downforce, 10 point roll cage. Swapped the seat for some out of a newer BMW to hold my fat butt in going around corners with 5 point harnesses to keep me in place.

if this doesn't get me close to 200 mph I will have to build a better engine. Can't wait to finish it and take my newest Grandson for a ride, He loves all my old cars and makes car noises every time I stand him up behind the wheel.

Sounds like a fun project!  I hope you hit the 200mph mark!  I think the fastest I've been was about a 120 in an RX7.  Thanks for sharing!

I've been at or very near the 150~160 range five or six times...I didn't have an official speed radar, so I can't say for positive. I've been to +/- 140 on a bike about a dozen times. I can say that there's a whole lot of air to push at those speeds, and the back end gets really light! I'm sure the big rear wing & belly pan on your car will help a ton in that department.smileIt sounds like you are setting it up right, let us know how you make out!goodluck

Clear proof that you "may be crazy" cool

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Wife posted a few videos of the car  on youtube, if you go there and do a search for 69 daytona pandalicious  it will bring them open.

Wife is a huge panda collector thus the name she has giving to the car.

All the muscle cars I've owned are long gone, 66 & 67 GTO's and a 69 SS396 Nova.  Did get up ind the triple digits a couple times. First with my dad in his Cadillac then on my own in the family Town and Country wagon. It was a 440 with gears in the 2.80 range. The needle was bouncing off the peg, I was 16 and lucky to have lived.

Ahhh, I remember that feeling fondly, as if it was yesterday!cool No, I MEAN it!laugh Ahh, the feeling of the wheel in your hands, the throbbing gas pedal under foot, your own pucker factor on the vinyl seat... HAHA!!lol2 The blur of standing objects before your eyes. The engine under your control seems more alive than you have ever heard it before...it's an ANIMAL!

Yes I remember that feeling. One summer night, I remember blasting off from a light, against the boistrerous (SP?) taunts from the guy in the blue 914 Porche (those dumb VW wannabe pancake motors) one lane over. This jerk is half my weight & a whole lot lower to the ground. Light goes green & I feather the clutch while keeping my mind on the revs...when I feel the rear tires hook, I lay in it for all it's worth. We (man & machine) are going after THAT prey! Banging thought the gears, we catch that zippy little bugger halfway through 4th (before the next light)...with more throttle to go. My growling engine is still pulling hard, while the prey has somehow run out of wind!big-grin In my mirror, the 914 hits the brakes & dives off on a side street, in shame.

There is a sad ending to this true story, of the 914 driver, which played out a week later.

Me, I was driving this...my best friend. The "Heap". Sorry, I don't have a better pic right now. But I'm tellin' ya, I laid waste to more idiots that I could shake 20 sticks at back in the day, AND I still have it, blue fender & all! cool

My 2nd best friend. Although...(he has never seen or talked to "The Heap", so he thinks WE are best friends). We are BF's, just on a different plane.wink I have owned & ridden him since 1996 & we know each other intimately!  I know his flexy wiggles at speed, I know his quirks in fast turns. But more importantly, I am familiar with his voracious appetite for devouring his prey. The Aquamax... (yes, there is a story behind the name)

So the mythical Aquamax lives! Frankly, it looks like a BEAST, if I could ride something like this, I'd be looking at a pretty short life, and, frankly, I already know that my life clock is ticking.

I already get a little afraid when I get my (daily driver) Nissan Sentra up to 6K on the tachometer. Unfortunately, I'm such an old fart that I'm also watching the instant MPG meter and and screaming out loud:

"2 MPG?" Really???

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yes, the Aquamax lives!laugh I've got a little over 5,000 miles on his new engine. The funny thing is that my little 2.5 liter Dodge Shadow gets better MPG's than the Aquamax, even when I try to stay out of the throttle for a few days...very difficult to do, BTW.lol2
