About 6 years ago someone stole three of my guns. Two are still out there somewhere. This is about the DW 15-2 that made it back to me.
I bought it at a local pawn shop and filled out all the proper paperwork, etc. Had lots of fun with that revolver. Even mounted a Tasco ProPoint site on it for steel plate shooting at the local range. (I live in WA state. You'll understand why I add this later.)
So, right after it was stolen I contacted the county sheriff and filed the necessary reports. I had kept the receipts so had the serial numbers for the stolen guns.
Now here is where it gets interesting/odd.
Late last year the local sheriff contacts me telling me that the DW has been located. It was found in the LA area and was shipped back to WA state for me to verify that it was my stolen gun. I checked the serial number and did indeed verify that was the gun stolen from me.
I was then informed that the gun had been stolen prior to my purchasing it 6 years earlier. Pictures had been sent to the prior owner to see if they could identify it as theirs. They couldn't so I now have the gun.
Now, the place that it had been stolen from prior to my ownership? Los Angeles.
The gun had been stolen in LA, to make it's way to WA state, to get stolen, to make it's way to LA, to be returned to WA state. What are the odds????

The sear doesn't always want to engage when pulling the hammer back. The barrel nut is jammed. I need to replace the battery in the ProPoint.
Other than those things it is fine. Whoever took it didn't even take the ProPoint off. It is still on the gun.

This is just weird... it must not have been reported stolen originally for a long time, Otherwise it would have been flagged in the system when you purchased it. Good to see you got it back.

Cool story!
I too wonder what the system really does. It should have been snagged when you purchased it, but slipped thru some how. How many times did it slip the system until it showed up in LA?? Of course 12 years ago they didn't have the computers we do now and the shared info, so let me ask you this, how many "registered" second hand guns will show as stolen in the future?
