A recent Topic by rvn6869 triggered an "A-HA" moment in my feeble mind, so here goes: Tell us the Story of your First Dan Wesson. You may have already shared your story someplace here, but jump in once more if you're so inclined. Of course, if pictures are available, bring 'em on.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I bought my first Dan Wesson in 1977, it was not only my first handgun, but my first gun. I bought it at Dunham's Sporting Goods in Pontiac, MI for about $160, as I recall. It was a 15-2 6", and came in a brown cardboard box. I shot it a fair amount, began reloading, bought several more, and shot all of them a lot for about 3-4 years. My interest kind of dropped off, and I ended up selling off everything except the Dan Wesson. I kept it because I always liked the idea of having a gun "just in case".This gun sat over 20 years unfired, indifferently stored, and sadly unloved.
Fast forward a bunch of years, and several moves where "Dan" came along, to my son, who at age 16, said "I want to learn how to shoot". We learned/relearned together on a Ruger MKII and the 15-2, and the insanity started all over again.
Here she is, in a previously unpublished photo:
This Dan Wesson no longer lives with me, it now belongs to my son. Although I own several other 15-2/715's, this one will always be special for both of us, and eventually for his son as well, I expect.

I have been shooting scoped .22 and .44 handguns off a bench for years and I decided to get a mid-caliber handgun that I could set up. I looked for a Colt Python with a eight inch barrel but had no luck. Last fall I saw a Dan Wesson with a 8" barrel in a local gun shop and bought it. I knew next to nothing about Dans other than a friend had one 20 years ago and bragged about it's trigger. I now have eight Dans. I dropped business cards at all the local gun shops and they call me if one comes in, got some good deals that way.

I've been a silhouette shooter since 1985. Started out with .22 rimfires, and by the second year, I wanted to shoot Big Bore. After getting the Unlimited and Production guns, the next step was Revolver. With all the advice available, there was only one choice, a gun I had never heard of before...the Dan Wesson. Between seasons, I ordered a Dan Wesson 740-V8S to shoot in the Revolver
class. Why the .357 Supermag? Because I had read about it being the
winningest cartridge since it's introduction, and the Dan Wesson was the
best revolver you could get.
I had read that the combat grips were better than the factory ones,
so I ordered mine with the extra grips. They felt a LOT better to me. My
first match was a 30x40, missing 4 chickens and 2 of each of the rest,
and I was very happy with the way it shot. The misses were my fault. I
had a lot of fun shooting it over the next 2 years, gradually getting
better, and sometimes worse, but that is the nature of the beast when
shooting silhouette with a revolver.
June 1988 was a normal match day, when I thought I would try Revolver
again. I had switched to IMR-4227 instead of W-296, and that seemed to
shoot better in the big Dan Wesson. I was happy to get through the
turkeys without a miss, as those are the tougher ones. Lining up on the
first ram, as the last bit of pressure was applied to the trigger, a hot
.22LR case bounced off my shooting glasses from the left side ( I shoot
left-handed) and I jerked my head and the trigger. Thought I had
missed, but my spotter called it right on the top edge of the ram, but
it went over.
For each shot after that, I was timing my shots between the bouncing
brass from the Ruger semi-auto next to me. A few more bounced off my
face, and I was somewhat annoyed, but I stayed focused. Ram number 9
went down, and I realized I still was clean. With time counting down,
and no more worries about the .22 brass hitting me, I made the best shot
I could and number 10 fell slowly. A 40x40 and man, I was ecstatic! My
first ever Revolver 40x40, and I was informed that it was the first 40
shot by a Kentucky state resident. This Dan Wesson will always be my
favorite one.

I think I have mentioned some of this before but yall asked for it:
My Dad bought his first DW with the exposed nut way back in the 70's I know pre 1976 because we moved from ID where he bought it, to MS (where I was born in '63). In about 1981-82 I decided I wanted a revolver but I wanted a .22. I found a nice single barrel 22V8 with a standard grip. I shot that gun for several years. In the end, I was able to knock down a standard 6" or 8" plate at 15 yards. Now trust me thats tricky ... cause you have to hit the very tip top to make it fall. In a fit of stupidity, I traded the .22 for a 15-2 6. I say stupid because the .22 was in great shape and the 15-2 was pretty worn out. Just a few months later, I had to sell that gun so I could stay in college. My first purchase when I got out was to buy a Ford Ranger to replace my Pinto, and the second purchase was my true blue 15-2 pp. I bought it new (to date my only new gun) in about May of 1986 from a local dealer (they still exist).
I will never sell my baby, and yes I shoot the heck out of it.

Just to jump inhere quickly, this is a Topic for EVERYONE!
If you just got your first Dan, you have owned guns for 40 years, and your Dan is far from being your first gun, let's hear about it.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

In the early nineties a good friend pretty much insisted if I buy a .357 it must be a Dan Wesson. He was one of the best silhouette shooters in country at the time. The gun I purchased new for 240.00 at my local dealer.
Now I own four Dans including a .44 and a .22. That first gun is still my favorite of all my guns and has fired thousands of rounds with. It's sitting on my coffee table right now. I'm looking for a 4" 15-2 Monson in excellent condition currently. If anyone knows of a better .357 than a Dan Wesson to buy please let me know.

My first Dan was bought in 1985. It is a 715 VH6. We (my wife and I) went into the gun shop with a nickle Colt Python in mind. The store owner suggested that we could save some money and get our gun right away (Python's were on back-order, IIRC) if we chose a Dan.
We liked it right away, and two weeks later we returned to the shop and ordered a PP case for it. While there the owner took advantage of us and sold us a 744 VH6 and ordered another PP case for it. After all, the 715 had become "hers" and we needed something to fill the "his" spot.
Over the years we have added the missing barrels for each of the PP's, the most recent BA being the VH10 for the 744.
About two and a half years ago I discovered the DWF and then began collecting Dan's . We now own 14 of them and I think... our collection may be complete.
Here's the starter:
-Mike
I purchased my first Dan a 722V6 about 5 years ago now. I had given my uncle a Smith 617 for helping me out after my Dad passed away and wanted to get something comparable so we could shoot together. I had remembered seeing a pistol pac in the showcase of a gun show when I was a kid and as soon as I found this one I knew I had to have it! I purchased it for $275 with the barrel tool.
Since purchasing the 722 I have added the VH4, VH6, VH8 and V8 Barrel Assemblies.
So you guys can thank this little gun for the DWF because had I not stumbled upon it there's a good chance this site wouldn't exist today...
