i picked up a high standard-sentinel mk III in 357 (4 in barrel)

afterwards i read that these guns where made by dan wesson in 1974-75.

it also appears that this gun has the same barrel system as the regular dw revolvers

first time out and this thing shoots great

looking for any input on this model or if anyone knows if i could use regular dw barrels on my frame?

thanks

Welcome Yep, High Standard had a business arrangement with Dan Wesson in the early years. HS would make the sights for DW, if DW sould make some guns for HS...or, at least I'm pretty sure that was the arrangement.Laugh

As far as I've seen, all the .357 Sentinels were the earlier Porkchop shroud design. So you could use some DW barrels, but you'd have to make sure they are the Porkchop style. One of our newer members has a Sentinel like yours, I posted some pics for him that he sent me, about halfway down this page...

We'd sure like to see pics of yours, if you can post some.Smile

Welcome to DWF. It appears that High Standard actually produced the very earliest production revolvers for Dan Wesson before the Monson facility was up and running. I believe that High Standard later manufactured Dan Wesson type revolvers under license from DW.

I know from personal experience that High Standard in both Hamden and East Hartford, CT produced very well made, quality firearms.

BTW-we live for pictures here, please post some when you have a chance

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Ya know...that's initially what I thought had happened, but somebody (or some article, I forget which) came along a while back & said it was the sight thing. I'm so confused!EmbarassedCry

my revolver is just about a twin to the one in the pics posted earlier, except my hammer and trigger are blued and i have no color on the front sight

that super vel ammo is great stuff if you can find it

i would like to try and find an 8 inch barrel , what would be a fair price?

so i need the inner barrel (tube), a shroud (i assume this is the outer casing) and a muzzle nut?

i will also have to pick up a barrel tool or is there something ordinary that will work??

i'll try and figure out how to post some pics

thanks

Yep, you'd need the barrel (inner), shroud (outer), and the tool. The tool is the easiest to get & can be found on eGouge, Gun Broker & even from Dan Wesson themselves (check "where can I order parts" in the FAQ's on the right of this screen).

The barrel will be the hardest to find, because it needs to be the earlier Porkchop design. The later straight shroud style shrouds won't mount onto the frame. Just so there's no confusion, this is a "Porkchop" style shroud.

As far as price goes, I would say that anything under $100 is a good deal, for one in decent shape. $100-150 is about par & anything over $200, that sucker had better be in super clean shape!lol2
