So here's the story. I've got my spies (UPS driver, mailman etc.) on the look out for Dans. Awhile back one of them reports there's a DW .22 magnum in a local pawn shop. I thought, I know a guy who's looking for one of those, so I called Ron and got his budget. Both of us were skeptical, but you know stranger things....
So I wandered over to the pawn shop and as suspected it was not a DW .22 magnum. It was real beat to **** model 22. The pawn broker thought he had a magnum and proceeded to tell me what a great find this would be for me for $250.00. When I told him it wasn't a 22 mag he began to tell me that I didn't know anything about Dan Wesson firearms.
At this point, me thinks to myself, Bruce your daily allotment of fun is coming up.
So I let him get all done and ask for a barrel wrench. A what he says? A barrel wrench I say so I can remove the shroud and the barrel. He says you can't take the barrel off. At this point I offer him $100.00 and tell him that it needs bluing, the lock up isn't good, and I think the timing is off and there's something wrong with the action and if he gave more than $150.00 for it he swallowed a story and got screwed. Convinced I didn't know what I was talking about...no sale.
So, I stop in this morning and before I can get to the counter he says he's decided to sell it to me for 100 bucks. (hmmmm... can we say motivated seller??) Told him nah, it's a piece of junk and I'd be buying it for parts but I'll give him 50. Anyway, I walked out $65.00 lighter with a REAL project gun in hand.
Then later this afternoon, one of our suppliers reps stopped by and saw me wiping it down. He asks me what's the story? He's looking for a nice .22 for his 12 year old son. Any way the rep walks out of my office $250.00 lighter (which includes me tearing it down and giving a it good clean. Me take a gun apart? Wow, what a hardship!) with a model 22 beater. Had a twinge of remorse, but then remembered he'd been price gouging me for years.
Like I said...My latest Dan acquisition.. well sort of... for about 3 hours anyway.

I kind of thought it was a general payback kind of justice. I've been in pawn shops when they were really putting low ball pressure on folks.
I was a bit surprised when he took my offer. I probably would have paid $100.00, but not today. I think when he realized that I knew a fair bit about firearms and especially Dan Wessons, he blinked. He got real pale when I pulled out my LED bore light. I made like a Dr. You all hmmms. I bet every single problem, except the bluing, I threw at him will be easily fixed when I break it down. That will be fun. The 1st Dan I ever owned was a 22 pistol pac.
This guy hasn't been handling firearms very long. He added the license just before the panic hit. When he learns a bit more I think he's going to figure out he got out maneuvered. Hey, this still America (mostly) and he who knows the most can usually take the day.
Since I seemed to have known the most today, someone might want to check the temperature in hell.
