I'm in the market for a semi-auto carry gun.. in 9mm or .40 cal... I'm leaning toward the new
XD-M Springfield because I heard from users and read that they are an awesome gun and besides if possible .. why not buy American all things being equal.. I can get either Caliiber for $468.00 plus tax .. NIB.
Then I got my latest issue of American Rifleman.... so there goes the "buy American" bit !!
Got me thinking.. since Dan Wesson is my new favorite.. why not check out their line of Semi autos in 9MM and .40 Cal... ( I'm leaning really strongly toward the 9 just because of the ammo pricing and availability thing)
Anyway.. any one out there with experience with both of these gun Manufactures.. or with the CZ lines in these caliber's..
Would appreciate any and all tips . what to look for.. don't get this/ get this or have this done.. etc.. advise..
Thanks.
Wayne
I recently bought a CZ75 P01 in 9MM and like it okay... with the exception of the DW's CZ's pistols are made in the Czech Republic if I'm not mistaken. I picked this one up for a CCW for my wife. She like the way it felt but has some trouble racking the slide.
I just picked up a used CBOB and absolutely love it. It's by far the coolest semi-auto I have.
Not sure if you noticed but DW introduced a new CCO at the shot show last week but it's a 45. Here is a link to the new 2009 DW Models. You also have the option of the PM9 in 9MM as well.
I have shot my brother-in-laws XD45 and really liked the way it felt and shot but as you discovered they are made in Croatia.
Sorry I can't be of more help...

Thanks for the reply Jodi..
couple of questions.
What does the letters stand for...
CBOB
CCO
PM9
I understand the CZ75 PO1 as I read the article on their site.
The XD and XD-M are composite framed guns... which is what think I want. but are these like that , or better then that..the web site I was looking at didn't really make that clear to me.( I want this gun as my CCW, I'll be using this for back up security in a high traffic area so accuracy/reliabilty is at the top of the list, longest shot would be 30 yards + - ).
I have a very high degree of respect for Springfield and therefore CZ due to their earlier relationship together. I have an earlier gun they made together for the Air Force back in the 60-70's. and a couple of older ones made by Springfield.
thanks,

Wayne- I don't know what a CCO is, a CBOB is a Classic Commander Bobtail, and a PM9 is the Pointman 9 mm, a full size 1911 in 9 mm. The CBOB is a 1911 modified in slide length and with a "bobbed" mainspring housing to make it more concealable. By all accounts it is a fine CCW choice, but it is a steel pistol and not a lightweight.
If you want an American, 9mm, CCW please consider the Smith & Wesson M&P's. I have a 9c (compact) that is excellent, and the full size would offer a higher magazine capacity if that is your desire.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
