Need to get current gun values on Dean's guns now!
Can anyone help me please?!
Because of Dean's death, I have to get the most current gun value on all his guns to settle his estate.
Dean said the value was done about 5 years ago and that won't do. I don't know if 5 yrs is even accurate.
He has custom guns [Calfee, Bond, etc...] and I don't know how he came up with the value years ago for those.
I wished I had asked him before he passed away, but he didn't have much time.
When we were told [Nov. 9, 2020] that he had up to six months to live and he passed away less than a month later [Dec. 7, 2020].
He had one listing that said Blue Book Value and the other [same amts.] said Gun Value.
How do I find the Values and how to I figure out the Values for custom made guns?
Do I need to get the current 42nd Edition Blue Book on Gun Values or some other books?
I'm still trying to wrack my mind how Dean came up with gun values on his custom guns.
Thank you.

I too am very sorry that you have to deal with valuing Dean's guns. I'm not an expert on estate issues, it would seem that you are now the owner of the guns as his wife but that could be something that may vary by the state you live in. My suggestion would be to low ball the values to reduce any estate tax that may be involved. I'm sure some are used and show some wear and tear but others would be quite collectable. Reach out to an estate expert to see what is and is not required by law in your state! I hope this works out for you. Dayton. My thought when iI collected my guns was that my wife could always sell off a gun a month to provide a (401K) income for her after I passed. I would have my son sell them on gun broker.com then give her the monies to her. that way all postage and fees would be taken care of as each is sold. that way no income would be recorded. make sure that you have some one you TRUST! do the selling. As a note the Blue Book of Gun Values is way behind on the valuing of most Dan Wessons. Good luck and I sure others will click in to give more advice.

Good ideas, Pops.
In addition to the ideas Pops mentioned, you may want to have a firearms appraisal done, to hopefully give you today's value. I don't know if there are any appraisers in your area, but I did find one on the internet that sounds promising. http://www.certifiedfirearmappraisals.com
The only other way I can think of to find the actual value would be to list each one on Gunbroker, with a really high reserve price & see what they bid up to. Then relist, with the reserve set at the highest bid price. That would take LOTS of time though, considering how may guns you are dealing with.
I would absolutely be honored to own many of Dean's guns, when you do decide to start selling some. I'm sure most other members here would feel the same. I may even refinance my house for the funds! LOL!
Anyway Marilyn, I hope the ideas in this thread will help you. It royally sucks that you didn't have more time with Dean before he passed.
