I live in the country. I have my own make shift shooting range out back of my house. My mail carrier stopped by last week to drop off a package. We know each other by name. She knows I am an avid shooter. She said to me "Lee, I have to show you something". She took out her cell phone and brought up a photo. It was a picture of an older style Taurus 9 mm in a mailbox. "Oh my God" I exclaimed. She told me there is a person on her route that has large fenced in yard. She was delivering mail and when she opened the box there was this pistol. She said she called the Sheriff's Dept and waited for them to show up. When they questioned the home owner, apparently he had loaned the pistol to a friend. And the friend was returning it but no one was home so he had the brilliant idea of leaving it in the mail box. My mail carrier said she left the matter in the hands of the Sheriff's Dept and went about her deliveries. Now I have no idea whatever happened after that but I will fill you guys in when I see her again. I hope the feds were not called in for the home owners sake. But how stupid can people be? What if a kid found the gun? We live out in the boonies, but wow. I have never loaned a gun to anyone except a cousin who is a retired police officer.
