Some of you know I have a passion for the old Savage 24-- So, I just bought this one on GB the other night...
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=338912910
First thought was "pass" -- it is painted, condition unknown, background pics are a mess, gun is balanced on a ladder.... etc...
But.... Then I looked a little deeper and saw the Tipton gun cleaning vise and the Dillon Case polisher... maybe some higher end cleaning rods...
Then there's the scope -- is it a Tasco, simmons, BSA? OR...is it a Zeiss, Leupold, Burris...
The ammo is a small bonus--but I had to pay $13 to ship the ammo--so I'm into the gun for $450--I can live with that as long as it shows up as a solid gun under the paint.
It always feels good to hit the bid button !!!

Looks like military certificates on the wall. I can't read them when I blow them up but I recognize the style; how about you? Probably why the gun is painted OD. I'd guess a friend or relative died and they found it. That would explain the lack of information on the scope; no one around to ask.
This just in: Looked at his other items. He may just sell Estate stuff as a business.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Yep, he's a seller all right. Notice the unopened bundles of shipping cartons? Judging by the steel I beams hanging form some heavy duty looking support beams, he must do some heavy lifting.

There is a monthly gun auction in my area, and the old Savage O/Us show up fairly often. They always sell well. I would say for the price you paid, after you strip the paint off you will find you did quite well. My dad picked up an old Savage .410 over .410 at an auction last year, a cool squirrel gun.

howdy, looks like a nice piece. this brings back a memory, does this particular one break down as standard function? the reason I ask is growing up my brother had/has a "savage" roughly same appearance scopeless mind you. I am thinking 20ga/.22mag now as this particular one it was in a black leather insulated case that it broke down and put into as standard function? if so would it be the same model??
thanks ahead of time. my pak

Probably a brown case--that would make it a model 24C (camper) which was 22/20 ga with short barrels and storage in buttstock. I had one and sold it last year. They break in half from factory like a shotgun. The camper was cool and swung nicely with the short barrels.
I've owned a lot of them and still have a few left-- I love the 222/20 combos and use them for PA turkey every fall. I still have a 22/410 for fun also. Sold the 24DL (deluxe with silver colored frame) in 22 mag/20 ga last year.
Looking for a 357/20 or a 357 max/20...

SHOOT have you received this one yet?
I just picked it up tonight-- looks like an ok deal on this one... Had a Tasco 3-9 on it that immediately went into the $10 yard sale pile. Most of the ammo was reloads and BADLY reformed from .223 cases,,, The shotgun ammo is all good though.
Good news is that the gun locks up tight and is very solid under all the paint. I'll start stripping off the paint tomorrow night. These are working guns for me, so looks don't matter--it will end up with one of my camo jobs anyway.
All I need to do is take one nice turkey with it and all will be well
