My niece and her husband are staying with us for a couple of weeks (from Michigan) while he attends a class at the Coast Guard Academy. Although she had been shooting once with him, she's not (well hadn't been) a shooter.
She said she'd like to go with me, so today we went to my local club (.22 lr only @ 50ft) and got her started off right.
After the Four Rules and Range Etiquette, we ran about 50 rounds thru the SR-22, which was fun and good for covering the basics. Worked on grip, stance, sight alignment, ...
Then I pulled out the Buckmark/Fastfire, and she FELL IN LOVE with shooting! I gave her a Mad Minute target just to get the feel of the gun, then the first serious target:
50 foot from a rested position, and I made her take it slow and relaxed.
After she burned off another 100 rounds, where we worked on grip, breathing control, me calling the shot and her adjusting, ...
I turned her loose for 30 rounds, minimal coaching, and we got
Most of this was at 10-20 seconds per 10 round magazine.
She was thrilled beyond belief, smiles from ear to ear, and now her husband is faced with the responsibility of getting her a decent quality .22, because
SHE'S A SHOOTER!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The funny thing is, I'm not so sure it was the "top notch" coaching as much as the student. I did exactly what I always do with a new shooter, she just seemed to actually listen. She was very focused, asked questions, and actually seemed to make adjustments.
Two possible reasons:
1) "She" was not hung up on some macho guy thing about knowing about guns and shooting.
2) She is a tattoo artist, and is used to very careful preparation, knows going in exactly what she wants to do, and that she needs to do it right the first time.
AND
Steve is gettin' some new Ink this week
