GRUNDY, Va., March 13 (UPI) -- One police officer was killed and three others shot Sunday by a suspect armed with a rifle in Grundy, Va., officials said.
The four officers were shot about 3 p.m. by the same man shooting at officers from the mountains, WVVA-TV in Bluefield, W.Va., reported.
Buchanan County 911 dispatchers called for helicopters to airlift the injured officers while police searched for the suspect, the station said.
Well this one has hit a little close to home! This is actually happening now in my hometown (Grundy, VA) which is about 180 miles west of Roanoke where I live now. From the information I have received two of the officers have died.
Apparently this was all over a repossessed car. Two guys must have went to the storage lot to try to steal back the repo'd car when the owner came back. He apparently held them for awhile but they must have gotten away shortly before the officers arrived heading further up the hollow. The officers must have been closing in when 4 of them were wounded.
Last I heard 1 had been apprehended and the other was still at large.
