Is there much collector interest in the old original "Bottle Cap" barrel nut Dan Wesson's?
All I ever see are the "recessed nut style' or "Pork chop" shroud designs. In 34 years of my love affair with these guns I have never seen a "Bottle Cap" barrel nut gun in the flesh, just photo's. Are they hidden away in someone's safe or what?

They come up now and then, I missed a porkchop exposed nut pistol pack in great shape a few months ago. Another DWF member scored that one. I've heard they shoot very well. David Abney has a few and has won competitions with said guns. They aren't as numerous as later guns and, to me at least, that makes them desirable.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

I saw, maybe my first, at a gun show on Sat. It was a 4" and in real nice shape. It was in a wooden box with a dozen or more guns. I noticed a price of $250, as well as other great and low priced guns. it was kind of shocking. Chicken wire covered everything and I kept walking.

Wow! You will not believe this. But these are the first color photo's I have ever seen of these old gun's. Almost like being there. This is sort of like a friend of mine who was restoring an old 61 Chevy Impala. I asked him 20 years ago why a 61? They are ugly.
He said the older they get the prettier they get. And he was right. I had not seen him for about 10 years. Then I ran into him at a local car show. He still had it. And it was beautiful. Fully restored, pearl white. dual antenna's. It was a real head turner. He took me for a ride and we stopped in at a Sonic restaurant. With real car hop's. People were taking photo's of it. Like these old Dan's of yours. The older they get, the prettier they get.

If you love pork you gotta add a W12 and a D11 to the mix!Absolutely! Keep looking, they are out there. I sure love the ones I have been fortunate enough to find. Here's some pics to help keep the infection going.
The more I study these guns the more I really have to find one in the flesh. They really changed the looks. The more I look at them I can see the "Old school house' story unfolding. The sight adjustments. The square frame. Wow!

Here is a Model W12 on Gunbroker now, it looks like it has seen better days but not that bad for its age.

I hear ya, and can totally identify.
The first time I heard an uncapped '69 BOSS 429 'Stang casually make it's way to it's trailer at a car show in front of my 20-something impressionistic (sp) mind in the late 80's sure left an everlasting impact. The same impression may be with witnessing hearing the raw, nasty "chomping at the bit" otherwised unexplained sound of the exhaust note of a high compression HEMI engine loping it's way down the street. Mind you, the first nasty ground-pounding HEMI exhaust notes I ever heard was behind one of those butt-ugly '64 Belvederes...around age 15 Dang, did that old ugly car sound gooood!
Back to old ugly DW's.
These old boys sound just as good as the newbies once the "loud lever" is pulled, believe me. here's a couple more. First is Ed & Fred, my early model 12 PP sequential numbered brothers...
And a little down the line, my 4-digit W12, the most beautiful & shiniest little Porkchop of my collection...

Oh man, where do you live? Those mountains in the background are beautiful. Look at the bluing on your gun's. These are when guns were built, not made. Something reminds me of the old "Webly" revolver's of the early 20th century. I'm getting a strange sensation when I leave these photo's, I feel the need to smoke a cigarette. And I have not smoked in 25 years.

I live just south of Salt Lake City. This year part of that mountainside is looking a bit scorched, as is about half our state. Hopefully the next few years won't be such a fire hazard.

I had to take another peek at these beautiful classic's. There is something rather haunting about these guns. I wonder what some of the general gun loving public's reaction to them was. I remember my step father who was a deputy sheriff back in the early 70's asked a small town cop who had a Dan Wesson as his sidearm in his holster what that hole in the bottom of the grip was for? The cop said "Its to let the back pressure escape". My step dad looked puzzled because the cop said it with such a straight face and walked away. lol

Thank you for reminding me, I did a small donation a while ago and I haven't seen any change on my access level nor did I get the little supporter tag.
