Hi, I Will be picking up a 15-1 357 with a 2.25" barrel. It is the Pork Chop style. I know I will want to buy a longer barrel for it some time soon. I also saw that nice barrel adapter so I can use the non pork chop style shroud. Those seem easier to find. Here are a few things I would like some help with.

I don't like the grips, appearance wise. I want something shorter and smaller if possible, and prefer the black rubberized style grips. While I can find some online, I have no way of knowing if they are smaller or larger than mine without buying them first. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I know I want to get a longer barrel. I am thinking a 6" maybe an 8". I think the 4" will be too close to what I currently have. I might later get one, but I was thinking about starting with a longer one. If you could only get one, would it be a 6" or 8"?

I am also looking for a good holster. both IWB and maybe a OWB too. I have read to look for something that fits a Colt Python, or a S&W K frame. Some people say a S&W L frame though. which of these works best? or do they all work about the same?

Yes, that is a 15. It has the huge rear sight of a model 12. The problem is that a shroud from a model 15-1 will not shoot to point of aim. The 15-1 front sight is too short. A model 12 shroud would work though. Be careful. Many times folks buy a model 14 or 14-1 shroud. My advice is to enjoy the gun for what it is, a snub nose built like a tank. And then buy a 15-2 that you can put all sort of lengths and styles on.

Interesting. I have been told it is an early model 15-1 pork chop style. Is there a way to confirm what it is by serial number?

I am concerned about this gun now. I really, really liked it. The gun belongs to one of the employees at the gun store. He told me it was a model 15 and I would be able to buy other barrels for it. I would either need to find the pork chop style 15, or get one of the adapters. This was a strong selling point for me. While I like the short snub nose barrel on it, I probably wouldn’t have put money down on it and made plans to purchase, if this is not the case.

I read on another forum that "Serial number From 10,000 to 25,000 it is a model 15." This serial is 2380X SO if that is correct then it is a model 15 not a 15-1  or 15-2

That is true. Before 25,000 is a model 15. Occasionally you see Barrel Assemblies on eBay. The trouble is figuring out if it is a 15 or 15-1,or a 14 or 14-1. None are interchangable. The model 12 only works if you have the barrel and exterior nut. The 14,14-1,15,&15-1 barrels are 1/4" shorter. The 15-2 barrels are the full measure again. EWK makes an adapter and replacement front sights. BTW, there are no 8" porkchop barrels. You would have to use a 15-2  BA.

Again, my suggestion is to buy a 15-2 with the barrel length you want. Always some on eBay if you want extra. They are not cheap though.

Ok thanks. I was under the impression that the 15 and 15-1 barrels were inner changeable. This is not true? I also thought the 15-2 barrels worked with the adapter. Right now I am committed to buy this one. Maybe I wouldn’t have committed to it if I knew that before hand. At this time since I have less than $50 left to pick it up, I don’t have many options. They would let me switch to another gun they have, but it wouldn’t be a Dan Wesson. I like the short barrel on it, and am not in a hurry to change it to anything else. And to be honest I might never drop the money for another barrel. If I do, I just need one that fits, with or without an adapter. If the sights are the only thing that would keep the others from working, I am sure I can have one machined if it bothered me that much.

thx for the help!

I guess if the 15-1 barrels won’t work, as long as the 15-2 will with an adapter, then I am not going to be picky.

Pretty sure this is the four inch version of what you are looking for.  Well, slightly short of four inch anyway.

For what it’s worth, I think you’d find a 8” a little too long.  I have a 22 with the 4 inch.  It is a nice size for carrying around even compared to a 6” and it’s fun to shoot. Although the 6” heavy has nice balance to target shoot.  The rubber presentation grips are about the same size as the wood one, but the pachmyer grooved ones seem a little smaller (they are a little harder to find though)

Thanks I am kind of thinking the same thing. I think the 8" barrel is just longer than I want. Just to make sure I go this right. If I do decide to get the barrel shroud adapter, I will be able to put any of the 6" 15-2 barrel, and barrel shroud on this gun. Is this correct? If it will fit, will the point of aim be off? If that is off, will I need a higher, or lower front sight? BTW I currently have no plans to buy another barrel any time soon, but If I happened to find a good deal and pull the trigger, I just want to make sure I am not getting something that won't fit up. thanks

You will be able to put the 15-2 shroud on the gun with an EWK adapter. The barrels have the same thread so no problem there. The huge rear sight of the 15 means the 15-2 front sight will be shorter, hence it will shoot high. I think EWK makes a replacement sight or you can just adapt your point of aim to compensate I think. Maybe someone in your area will let you try one to see if that is true and you can compensate by your hold.

Ok thanks! That is what I needed to know. I might never buy a 15-2 barrel, but wanted to make sure it would fit. If I have to adjust point of aim, or change the front sights I can do that. Who knows I may either find the correct shroud sometime, or have one machined.
