We've had some serious discussion here on the DWF of late and thought I would share this... while not on the same level as the other topics it's very irritating to me!
My daughter got a new principal at her school this year and she has decided to prohibit Halloween parties at school and instead having a fall party. No Halloween decorations, food, costumes allowed...
I personally just can't see how you can tie dressing up as bugs bunny, Dora, or batman can be elevated to something demonic! I'm curious what other members here with children experience at their school...
Does your child's school allow Halloween parties?
- Yes
- No

In the elementary schools they can have a party. No dress up but they may have someone do face painting. One school, in Simpsonville, has a huge party, after hours where the children can wear there costumes they have games booths and the such. This is a PTO fund raiser. Complete with a haunted house in the school. They only ask that costumes not be really gorey, as they have Pre-K and Kindergarten here as well. This is the school I drove bus out of until I got my foot damaged. My children went there when they were young. So, I was always abliged to and will again I hope help out in the fun.

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."

1. I don't have young children.
2. What is the principal's point she is trying to make?
2. Is this party being held after school hours? If so, any parent who wished their child not to attend may do so.
If not, then it's a autumn gala.
4. Do we really have to keep taking all the fun out of things?
If you're going to drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.

Frankly, this says it all, IMHO
I think it's possible to the too politically correct
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Photo summed it up nicely with #4. Yes, some seem to make a career of doing just that.
It isn't just 'possible' to be too PC, examples show up in the news every week. Or so it seems.
Maybe a group of concerned parents could talk with the local school board about their choice of the new principal.

Halloween is a social activity, kid's love it, many parents get very deeply involved.
Anyone invoking a "demonic" aspect is just overreacting IMHO
We just need to relax on the small, silly stuff. There are way too many important things for us to work on to get freaked out about candy bars and skittles.
OTOH, when you find your kid sitting in front of a pentagram drawn on the basement floor and chanting to a bunch of candles, well...
