A Letter to the Editor from a young (and clearly strong minded) woman in Waco,TX

A little old, but the Truth never changes

From the Waco Herald Tribune, November 18, 2010

Put me in charge …

Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good."

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self-esteem," consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self-esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The saddest part of this whole commentary is this is now what our great country has become. Once one half of the population realizes the other half doesn't contribute, things will change.

Don't hold your breath.  The current population is too apathetic, IMHO.

Ahhhhh... Texas women. Reason number 1667 why I moved to Texas. Reason number 1666 is that we have our own power grid and are drilling natural gas like crazy! cool

Amen!  Somewhere along the way the word "entitlement" got applied to any government assistance program.  Technically, "entitlement" applies to things like social security and benefits are based on the amount that you paid in, not your perceived need.  It's that misconception that perpetuates the problem.

Steve I think you should run for President. That would probably fix our National Deficit. I would add don't give to foreign countries unless they give something back.  Vote for Steve.

Here's a simple, but I think workable, plan to address unfair international trade practices. Whatever tarriff/vat/duty a country applies to US goods coming into their country will become the rate we apply to their goods coming into the US.

Exactly. I don't know when or why trade tariffs ever started being so lopsided, but you're right, it needs to stop NOW. Another thing that irks me is the fact that we give millions of dollars in "aid" every year to countries that harbor & train terrorists to kill us. That is so insane that it's almost laughable.screwy

Steve did not say these words, an unknown (to me) American Woman said these words. If you want Steve for President, you are "BF Nuts". Anyone who has trouble figuring out what "BF" stands for, think about "insects procreating".

But, if Steve was President:

1) Everyone on public assistance of any kind would either present evidence of gainful employment of some kind, OR

2) Work in service to their community, and I mean everyone. There would be opportunities for everyone, no matter what the personal life challenges exist. This would include universal public child care (the Israeli Kibbutz system worked) as needed. There is a LOT of work that needs to be done in America.

3) There would be a universal Health Care system, designed to provide at minimum catastrophic, urgent, preventative care to all, without taking away from the ability for individuals and employers to provide enhanced services without penalty. Counterproductive lifestyle choices would result in reduction, and ultimately elimination of health care benefits.

4) There would be a requirement for every American to complete mandatory Public Service as part of "Citizenship" at some point between ages 18-25. EVERYONE!. Once the Citizenship requirement is met, you are allowed to vote, if you do not fulfill this requirement, you do not vote or hold public office.

5) Persons not American Citizens are welcome, but are not eligible for any public assistance, including universal Health Care, unless they are legally and gainfully employed or engaged in their Public Service requirement.

6) All Government and Public Service employees, including the Armed Forces AND Elected Representatives would have exactly the same benefits, Medical, Life Insurance, Pension, Education, etc.

There is much more, but so far you can see that Steve will never be President

That still sounds good anyway Steve. Add a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage and a Dan Wesson for every patriotic American. :)
