Dusty Trail filed this report:

Well DW aficionados, first and foremost the Saxet gun show was CROWDED.  Parking was impossible, but yours truly managed a premier spot not only near the front, but also under a shady tree, courtesy of a satisfied cowboy customer and his lady-friend who were making their getaway with a new A/R and a thundering raised 4X4 pickup.

I had to stand in a long line to get in, which was a “new first” there at the ol' Crockett Center (named for Davey).  A silent but obvious comment on the current political situation here in the U.S…It was OK though, because an old Vet runs an NRA sign up table in the lobby and he always has some words of wisdom and good stories…  Additionally, three ladies also occupy the lobby where they roast and sell cinnamon pecans - the air is heavy with that fragrant roasted aroma and it goes a long way to making the wait more tolerable!  They also sell bumper stickers in the lobby.  Saw my first “Impeach Obama” bumper sticker…how unkind…Wink

 What about the gun-show…?

Oh yeah, well, I finally got inside and perused the tables.  Lots of vintage everything - except Dan Wesson's of course; plenty of A/R's and accessories, HUGE assortment of knives, ammo tables sold out, etc.  Want a Mauser or a tactical shotgun or a new autoloader?  We got 'em…and did I mention it was crowded?  After a few hours I was returning from a resuscitative cup of coffee in the concession area.  I was continuing to reconnoiter any table with revolvers as I began to consider my departure.  Then at a non-distinct table within a sea of magazine and army surplus vendors, my searching efforts hit pay-dirt:

Wasn't one of these just being discussed on the forum?

Now, had I been thinking ahead I would have brought a real camera with me, but sadly all I had was my phone - however; having said that, here is a phone-photo of a Monson 445 Supermag 10″ 3 slot - not immaculate, but pretty danged nice.  Serial number: 445B IHMSA-016 (!).  Price tag says $995, though the seller would take less.

Additionally:

Nice.  Palmer built, compensated barrel, knurled barrel nut, Dan Wesson  laser scribed on the shroud.  If you look hard you can see at the bottom of the card where the seller put: “signed by maker” - okay…Price says $1100, but he'll sell it for $900.  For the record I popped the cylinder open and was really agravated to see that it was filthy and needed badly to be cleaned - THAT  is not right…

Way too much gun for me, but if anyone is interested in either revolver, send me a PM and I'll send you the sellers contact information.

And now, as a night cap for all of today's “Range Report” readers:

Go ahead.  Feast your eyes.  I couldn't pass that one up…

Yeah, it sucks when guns up for sale are dirty. It sure makes me want to either walk, or dicker them way down.

Man, how's that for timing on the 3-slot gun?Surprised The serial number is sure interesting, I wonder if that's the norm for those? Pretty neat.

Well, a day at the gun show. Certainly a good way to spend a Saturday.

That's funny about the bumper sticker. I think I would have bought a few & slapped them on some bumpers at work...of known voters.Laugh LOL!!

Two 445 SuperMag's at one show and interesting variations as well!  IHMSA80x80 might be able to answer this question... Wasn't IHMSA members able to get their membership number as part of their Serial number?

Cool pictures... thanks for sharing!

Yes Jody. You could either get your IHMSA number, or a generic number with IHMSA in the serial stamp.

Good report! We hardly ever see Dan Wessons around here for sale. Did you get that XP-100, or just a picture of it, since you said you couldn't resist?

1) Very interesting.  What is that pistol worth with the IHMSA Serial number?

2) Couldn't resist taking the picture - didn't buy, although I think the price tag was $695 (unfortunately it didn't come out in the picture).  Also, that is a wooden stock (I believe).

Dusty,

Nice job on that parking spot. Isn't there only 2 trees in that parking lot? LOL

My boss and I drove over there, and once we saw everyone parking in the ditch out front, and the fact that the Chuy's parking lot was jammed, we already had enough before ever getting out of the truck.

Mmm, IHMSA model- glad I didn't get out of the truck after all.

Definately - two trees and no more!

The place was a zoo as you saw.  I'm not sure I would've gone in if I had to park somewhere down Lamar (or the ditch…).

That IHMSA was a beauty and it would have been really easy to just buy it…you probably made a good decision!!  It's still gnawing at me... - interestingly there were a lot of guys carrying guns they were looking to sell and lamenting the current economic situation.  I was talking to one guy who said he took a 20% pay cut and was happy to do it so he wouldn't be laid off.

Thanks for the comments guys, I definately was having a little fun writing “the report”…

And of course if any of our members are interested in following up on either of those guns, let me know.

I personally am still waiting for that Black AGS to appear…which reminds me, I saw a Ruger Alaska Guide Special .44 mag in Stainless at the show.  It just didn't cut it after seeing that picture of the Dan Wesson AGS…

Thanks for the show report.  The east is not much different as far as the show market goes right now.  If you were shopping for an AR or anything that may attache to an AR you could feast over almost every other table here in York, PA this past weekend.  Very few revolvers in the place.  Three DW's in the entire show.  The .22 came home.  The place was so crowded it was almost intolerable to choose to stop moving or you would get shoved.  No fun at all.  The huge push here in the east was for reloading components.  How is that in Texas?

SMF,

I can't speak for the stuff at the gun show since I never left the vehicle.

I can say that finding reloading components in Texas (or Austin at least) is sporadic at best. You can usually find 100 bullets here and a 1# jug of powder there. As for small rifle primers or buying anything in bulk amounts, it ain't happenin.

Of course the search would be much easier if I were loading light bullet weights in 357 or 44. Unfortunately, I won't purchase anything under 170gr for the 357SM and will try to stay well beyond 240gr* for the 445SM.

*I reserve the right to change my mind about said bullet weights once I send a few 300grainers out of the 445.

cdf knows the local reloading situation far better than I do (I'm not doing any reloading...yet), but there are two vendors frequently at the Saxet show.

One, Jim Whitaker,  is out of Dallas (~200 miles North) and he has a fairly large stock of all comonents at the show, gives classes, sells equipement, etc.

Second vendor also has a lot of components displayed along with magazines, etc., etc. for sale.

For a gun show I think two vendors has to be considered "pretty light" - there are more people selling jewelry...

Good job on that DW .22!!

Small rifle primers is a problem around here also.  All the local shops have zero.  Large rifle were a problem earlier in the fall.  I must get on to the 300Gr. 445's.  I only have ever loaded the 240 & 250 grain loads.  The powder was going out the door at the show like powder prohibition was starting on Monday morning.

Later,

Coincidentally found on GB - nice 445BSM with 10" 3 slot.  S/N IHMSA-016.  This is the exact gun I saw at the Saxet show 3 months ago (see post above):

Looks like it was picked up by the Pac Breakers down in Victoria, TX.

I noticed that, too. I wonder why they haven't unscrewed the barrels & listed them separately then, like the do all the Pac's??rofl
