Hello all. I'm new here. I have a Dan Wesson 44 mag revolver, came with a 4", 6", and 8" barrel. It currently has the 4" barrel on it but I won't to put the 8" barrel on it for the up coming deer season, my question is can I attach the scope RINGS directly to the vent rib on the 8" barrel? I've seen this done before in 1 picture off off google images but was wondering if this would be ok. If this IS ok what is your thoughts on a purdy descent set of scope rings and a descent scope? Not lookin to put a fortune in this lil project just somethan descent and will hold accurate. Nothin real powerful scope wise cause my furthest shot around where I live is somewhere right around 50 yards. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the DWF, for a great overview of scope mount options check out the Scope Mount thread that is stickied in the Gunsmithing Reloading and Grip making section of the forum. There were several clamp on mounts made for Dan Wessons but none are made any longer. Sometimes show up on Ebay or GB.
You might also want to look at the shrouds currently made by EWK Arms as a great way to mount a scope but not alter your original shrouds.
