I have a model w12 ser # 311X and its shaving the sides of the bullets on winchester 38 special fmj rounds and causing the cylinder to jam. Does not do it with 158 rn or 357 jhp . noticed that both the 2.5 and 6 inch barrels have a very sharp edge leading into the start of the barrel. The 4 inch has a small chamfer befor the lead in cone. was using 6 inch when I first noticed a problem. Any ideas?

I had some one give me an old box of Remington 38 LRN that did
some spitting on my model 15, I had shot a thousand rounds of various
ammo before with no problem an I have shot a thousand rounds of
different ammo since with out a single spit since.
Might just be the ammo.

May have found the problem. When you cock it very slowly in single action the cylinder stops just a slight bit befor it locks and can be rotated maybe .030 by hand and it locks. double action works fine and if you pull hammer back faster its ok. maybe I need a new cylinder paw where can I get one?

Welcome to DWF. I hope that cylinder paw helps line the cylinder back up for you. Make sure you wear your safety glasses. You definitely don't want a timing issue. Note that 38 spl bullet has to travel farther than the 357 to the barrel cone. It can start to turn a little. A lot of things can cause that. The cylinder chambers may not be that tight in tolerance at the bullet's position in the chamber either. Keep us posted.

Actually it was me on my 740. While the springs needed to be replaced they weren't the cause of the lockup issue. Truman, am I correct that by pawl you mean the hand shown as part #38 in this diagram https://www.danwessonforum.com/wp-content/uploads/large-frame-manual.pdf ? That is what I had to replace but I still needed a gunsmith to finish the job. The smith said he lengthened the hand by welding a piece to it. He did a great job as I can't tell visually that he did that but it does fully rotate now.
I do wonder if also replacing the extractor would have helped as mine is noticeably worn. What shape is your extractor in?

I found it, member tried springs and then end up fixing it with a
new hand, it was a model 15 .
