I plan on retiring after almost 24 years of service on/around 1 Jan 2018 --and I want to buy myself a nice going away gift 🙂 I'm thinking a brand spanking new DW semi-auto of the PM9 flavor would fit the bill nicely... I already have a 45 and 10mm.
My only requirements so far are stainless and 9mm--anybody care to provide any input ?

Shoot- I appreciate your service and may I say, the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train... Find something to do though- after I walked the stage it only took my terminal leave (90 days) to figure out I couldn't sit at home. Congratulations!
I like my PM 9 just fine- it's a good choice for the 9mm in a 1911 frame. Easy to control and cheap to reload.
Best Regards, Ron

Mike, I guess we have been Friends for quite a while. Your "Average Joe Tuneup" procedure has undoubtedly helped hundreds (maybe more) shooters get the best out of the Dan Wesson Small Frame revolver.
Your Service as an American Hero is treasured and respected on DWF.
Recommendation on a 9mm DW 1911? Does not strictly meet your parameters, but THIS would be the ultimate DW 9mm 1911 IMHO!
Who could not love a super premium double stack 23+1 DW 1911 9mm? My guess would be the wife who said "YOU SPENT HOW MUCH ON ANOTHER GUN?"
Steve
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

It just doesn't scream "Sexy" like the PM9 🙂 I figure I'll get ahold of Keith and give him a whole year to build it--I just need to come up with a nice custom serial number.

Shoot, good to see you here on DWF again!
My only suggestion at this point, is are you firm on 9mm? A PM38, in 38 Super would scream sexy in my mind. Still a nice fun fairly mild caliber to shoot in a 1911, and a classic caliber that you wont see 5 other guys with at every range trip. Not expensive to shoot if you reload, although still not as economical as 9mm.
Or perhaps better yet a matching pair, PM9 and PM38? His & Hers?!?

Not to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure you don't get free samples.........

Now THIS is a GREAT idea! .38 Super in a semi custom DW Stainless 1911? High polish stainless with trigger, slide stop, mag release, sights in black

I've NEVER owned a 38 super -- I guess it is time to do some research... I want to do it right, it's going to be my gun for life...

I don't own a .38 Super. I have known of it's reputation for a fair number of years, and I'd love to have one, DW or other. It has always seemed to me to be the "thinking mans" 1911, and I'd sell some guns to buy a .38 Super 1911, DW or other brand

That's the plan -- the 357SM will be the first to go 🙂 Then we'll see if I need to sell anything else to cover the new gun. I'm sending an order in to Midway this week and I already have all the 38 super reloading items in the cart...Once I buy the dies I'm committed !

I have a DW Guardian in 38 Super. A lot of fun to shoot and in my opinion very manageable even with the light weight of the alloy frame. The Guardian has been 100% reliable with any factory ammo I have used. Very accurate. I never ran any through a chronograph. I do not have a 9mm 1911 to compare to.
I have not reloaded for it yet but from what I read it is a very reloader friendly caliber and the brass lasts many times. There is a lot of good data out there for it.
Perhaps it is my imagination but at the range I see it as a nice fairly light recoiling round, with a nice sharp report. Load data suggests performance capability close to .357 Sig but without the Sig's muzzle blast and noise. And lets face it when you go to the range do you want to be another guy on the line with a 9mm or the only guy there with a custom 38 Super.
I do believe that SMF owns a custom ordered Dan Wesson Firearms 38 Super, I am sure he is a good source of info. Hopefully he does not mind me mentioning him.
