Sounds like a plan, I won't be far behind in the retirement day! Thanks for all your years of service! Keep us updated on the search and a thought some custom engraving if you can't get the Numbers you want!
If you need something to do I have plenty so just head back this way!

well, 9mm/38 super combo isn't recommended either... 🙁
But I did take a leap and ordered dies, brass, and some bullets 🙂 I also found a nice lyman 4 cavity 125gr 9mm mould that may feed well--time will tell.
Looking forward to a new caliber to experiment with -- been a while since I had to start from the ground up on a new caliber.

Sounds like you are going 9mm, IMHO, 9mm is becoming a world standard "do everything" pistol caliber, you can't hardly go wrong with 9mm.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

So last night I couldn't sleep-- so I decided it was a good time to sort out the 38 super brass my dad gave me. I ended up with 3 big piles for the most part. GFL (Fiocchi) with full size rim, Starline Supercomp with small rim, and Federal with small rim.
So according to Keith, they have tested both 38 super and supercomp at DW and both function in the guns. From what I have read it's a 50/50 shot on what really functions in an individual gun.
Some guys says they have problems with feeding with the full size rims, others say they have problems reloading the smaller case head on the supercomp. And then there is the TJ head which is even smaller....
So do any of you 38 super owners have any insight on what you are running?

Well, since I didn't have to custom order -- the 38 Super is here way in advance of Retirement 🙂 Guess that means I can at least function test it and break it in slowly....
Outside was super oily out of the box, hopefully the inside is lubed as well. I haven't pulled it down for initial cleaning yet, just put on my custom AF grips.

A beautiful gun, and best wishes from a longtime friend and a grateful American. America has countless Heroes who serve selflessly, with little personal recognition.
Peace Be With You, and enjoy the new life that you so richly deserve.

I still say that front sight has to go -- just a simple black blade would look much classier...
Something that CZ/DW does not do on 1911's is the traditional DW interchangeable front sight. My PM-1-S allows this. The PITA is that the front sight set screw needs to be loctited in place. The upside is that any interchangeable .DW front sight can be used

Looks nice.....it looks exactly like one of my DW-Mitchell's from the Serva regime. The PM38 has the checkered front strap which is a nice addition. The flat serrated top is a nice feature also. I'm going to pick up a PM38 as well and have Bob checker the front strap on the Mitchell, add S&A magwells, and they'll make a nice matched set.

Well, I pulled it down for a clean/lube before I put a round through it... Pretty dirty/sticky inside to be honest (2016 serial number, so may have been sitting in wharehouse a while). An initial wipedown with a piece of t-shirt left it pretty black. Lubed with the provided oil and racked the slide for a while...more black coming out--Must need the rail surfaces mated to get them smoother--a couple hundred rounds should take care of that...
Only real issue is the slide is catching on the sear reset--this may wear in over time, but it catches enough to almost hold the slide back. I'll let it wear in a little, but will probably tear it down and fix it right later on. At that level of tear-down it will get a trigger job also.
Recoil springs seems a lot stronger than my Silverback which is just odd... Hope to get out this morning and put a few test rounds through it. I loaded up a few 125 speer over 4.5 of 700x (light load).

Well, 50 rounds, no issues !!! Nicely tuned extractor, dropped most of the empties all in one spot. velocity was higher than expected--right around 1140 fps. I haven't checked the empty cases yet for pressure signs, but I did run a variety of brass to check function. Everything fed no issues-38 super, super comp, super TC...
Now to tear it down clean and relube all over again !

Almost forgot -- My sincere thanks to lonwolf93 and Steve for convincing me to get the 38 Super over 9mm... I LOVE it so far.
Ran another 50 rounds through it today.. Offhand braced against a post I could make one nice ragged hole at 10 yards with 125gr cast light reloads--This is going to be a shooter once it is broken in. 100+ rounds though it and not a single malfunction, no matter what brand or style of brass I put through it.

Mike, pretty much the only gun I'd be really fired up to buy is a 38 Super. I can't afford one, don't really need one, but I am fully capable of doing something stupid to get one.
I am not up for getting divorced, but a .38 Super???

Just do like I did-- turn loose a spare DW or 2 and the Super will be paid for. That's why we have all those multiple DW's 🙂

One thing I just noticed about the PM-38 from 2016 I received. It came with 2 mags both of which are MUCH nicer than the ones that came with the Silverback.
Silverback from 2015 has Check-mate mags with removable base (6,560,907).
PM-38 has welded base with round followers (Metalform I believe). Granted they won't seat fully loaded with the slide closed because of the rounded follower, but they appear to be of heavier gauge steel and better finished.
The RZ-10 (2004) I bought used so I can't verify the mags, but they have shooting star followers in them as well as base pads. Also nicely finished -appear to be Metalform mags.
