When S&W came out with their survival series, I decided to make my own.  Originally I used a Pelican case, just like S&W.  But, it was too bulky to be any good.  So, I took my S&W 13 in .357 and built this case around it.  But, when I got the 2" barrel for the porkchop I decided it would be my new trail gun with 2" and 6" capabilityLaugh.

As it sits now it has the following;

W-12  .357

barrel tools

extra barrel

birdshot shells

gerber knife

knife sharpener

compass

leatherman wave

swiss army knife (have to have one!)

small bottle CLP

surefire flashlight

waterproof match container

sealed cigar Laugh

18 rounds of 357 HP ammo in MTM wallet

…and whatever else I decide to toss in.  I'm going to make some sealed tubes of 357 HP's and light 38's to toss in also.  I want a smaller set of "rubber" grips (anybody ever tried sanding down a set of Pachmayr's Confused?

BTW, that is a Blackhawk Tactical medical kit (about $25 empty).  Folds up easily, fits in a backpack, well built, and LOTS of spots to put "stuff".

Those S&W kits are such junk, shameless marketing.  Lets put a safety blanket, a useless snubbie in an insanely huge caliber. Put a grizzly attack video and market it to the idiots (sorry idiots).

Yours is much better!

I hope so...Laugh  I don't intend to fight off grizzly's with mine, but I always toss it in the truck when the kids and I hit the trails or the woods (and that's ALOT).  We always have a small survival kit in one of the backpacks, but this one includes the 357.  I grew up in a hunting family in PA, and we all learned to take anything from grouse to rabbits to deer with the 357.  Plus, I always toss in a box of 38's and let the kids practice!

That's a "survival" cigar.... for after I take down the grizzly with one well placed shot from the DW Laugh.  I'm just a casual cigar smoker--I got hooked on them in Panama in 1995-1998.  All kinds of good cigars down there cheap.

Northwest corner, Erie, PA (lake effect snow!).  I still have a camp in Wharton, PA.  I used to get up there at least twice a year, but now that I'm in CO, I'm not sure how often I will get back Cry.

SHOOT- Smaller Pachmayr- how about a Gripper? about 20 % less bulk and fingergrooved. I like them a lot, they really are pretty "grippy"

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Have you tried to find a gripper for a DW lately...?  I might as well go buy some goldLaugh.  I tried bidding on a few on Ebay but they went stupid high.

I'd wait to try & find one at a gun show, or something. Egouge prices are too crazy sometimes.

Man, I sure like the survival kit idea, that's really cool! Looks like everything fits really well, too.Laugh

One of my favorite grips for S&W K frames....  Unfortunately they don't make them anymore for the DW's.  It is a finger grip model.  Just do a google image search for them and you'll see lots of pics.

Shoot, you can sand Pacs fairly easily with a Dremel and sanding drum; if you need "flats" use a disk.  You will get some feathering of the rubber, but that cleans up OK with a finer grit or a bit of hand sanding.  You'll know you went too deep if you hit metal (DAMHIKT).

Thanks for letting me know.  If I come across any I'll post them here.  I have seen and possessed these grips and I dislike them.  Thanks for the education

The Grippers are a real Love>Hate thing. Some people (me) Love them, some people Hate them to the extent that they give them away. They are better for me than the Hogues, and they're no longer manufactured, so they command a premium in Auctions. I got all I need, so I don't go looking for them anymore.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I like them simply because they are flat and carry well on the trail (compact).  Plus they are rubber, so I can actually get them soaking wet, drop them, etc (not that I ever do Smile).  My beauty DW's all wear wood, but the workhorses get rubber.
