Lately I've been on the hunt for the perfect 22 scope to put on my 77/22.  I'm picky when it comes to scopes--they have to funtion perfectly, be reasonably priced, but most important... they have to compliment the lines of a fine looking .22 --

I'm not shooting for groups at 100 yards, so I don't need a 24X scope that is 2 feet long.  I'm using mine to hunt squirrels and the occasional pop can.

The goal is to find a scope for around $200 or less.  I've done a lot of research between Nikon, Leupold, and bushnell... Even checked out the new Weavers.  But all the reviews I found kept pointing to the Vortex brand of scopes.  Anybody have one?

I'm looking at either the crossfire or the Diamondback in rimfire.  Big difference in price, not so much in features.

The Diamondback sure looks like a better scope when you look at the pictures on the site.  I can get a brand new Bushnell Elite 3200 for $150+ship... decisions...

not much help here, I don't put much value in .22's so mine usally get a cheap

$50 scope. I have recently seen some decent glass from Sightron.

Shoot,

I have several differnet brands of scopes on my rifles, but the one standard for the $$$ I have settled on is the Elite 3200.  Between my sons and I we now have (6) of them and I have never had a problem with any of them in any weather and they present the best consistent field of view for all of us at our home.  Just my 2 cents...  I do have one Elite 4200, which cost more and I cannot really tell a difference, that is why I only have one of themBig Grin

Most of my centerfire rifles have 3200/4200 glass on them.  Really like them Laugh... If you like the elites--Find yourself a Browning branded scope; 3200 tube with 4200 glass in it for a lot less money !!!  They are hard to find but well worth the search.  I have one on my 300 win mag.

I have a Pride and Fowler Rapid Reticle scope on my Magnum Research .22 LR rifle.  Though the price easily busts your $200 limit.

I'll check into them, I may be able to get better pricing.  Right now I can get either the elite 3200 or the vortex diamond for $150.

How do you like the Fowler?  Does it work as advertised?

My current personal favorite is a 20+year old VariXIIc AO Leupold. this one is 3x9, but 2x7 is fine if you can find one.

When picking a scope for a 22, remember that the parallax needs to be set for the ranges you intend to shoot. Therefore the Adjustable Objective. With a Remington 5 (zastava) my 11year old son's favorite game is shooting 12 ga shells off a fence at 50-100yds.

I just sent my Leupold Vari-X IIC 3-9 back to leupold for service.  For some reason the power ring got REAL tight.  Mine doesn't have the AO.  Only Leu I've ever had to send in for service my entire life.

I've got a lot of nice scopes, but a good .22 scope is hard to find.  I want a true .22 scope with 50 yd parallax.  Some shotgun scopes work great and they have 60yd parallax.

OK, even though i was able to work a great deal on the Fowler, I went ahead and ordered the Vortex Diamondback 2-7 rimfire.  I just don't see myself needing to make 200yd shots on squirrels Laugh...

It is supposed to ship today, so I'll give a review once I get it (I can't open my 77/22 until X-mas morning Yell).

Merry X-mas !!!

So this morning I unwrapped my new Ruger 77/22 and proceeded to mount the new Vortex Diamondback on it... God it looks BEAUTIFUL on there... like it was designed around the gun... Worship

Then I went to open the bolt and quickly found out the bolt handle hits the power ring... And I can't get the bolt open far enough to move the bolt to the rear WOW....

My heart just sank--It looks perfect !!!  I guess I'll be ordering a Elite 3200 now (provided I can verify eyepiece diameter).

I still like the Vortex, just need to find something else to mount it on.
