Had some fogging/ ghosting/ clouding, on the right side of my model 15.

It had this since the day I bought it a year ago. You can see what I'm talking about

here.

Image Enlarger

So I decided to use some Flitz paste and end up rubbing the bluing off Mad

I know some might say that it's really not that bad, but seriously this bugs me worse

than the clouding it had …so off to hot bluer she went to day.

My 15-2 that I bought last March, has fogging in that same area, same side.

When I bought it, it had no fogging at all but showed up couple months later, I could never figure why. It was near mint cond. and I think  it spent most all its life in a case.

Serial # of mine is a lot higher than yours, they would be years apart. It will be interesting as time goes by to see if yours ever gets like that again after  the reblue.

I'd take a pic, but I can never get the fogging to show up with my cheapo camera

I've got a couple that are fogged in that area, my older 15 Porkchop & the 15-2. You can kinda see it in this pic...

Image Enlarger

My Porkchop is more even all over, leading me to believe that it has been rubbed down with a (not very soft) cloth by a previous owner.

Bummer about the Flitz, Blacktop. I know others here have said they use it on blued guns, but I've been leery & have never wanted to find out. I only use Flitz on my stainless stuff, with Mothers wax on the blued ones.

Blacktop when you talk to Hotbluer maybe you can ask him why this would happen.

The Flitz was working, you can see I got rid of the most of fogging. But the bottom by

the trigger was where it was the worst and I got to aggressive. I got some barney

under the grip area and I'm interested how this will turn out.

Talked to Mark about the barney problem Dan's have and he filled me in

on the cause. He has a method to combat the barney problem but can't

guarantee how long it will last.

Said the reason behind the barney was the silica levels were to high on the

casting molds, I didn't ask if the fogging was from the same but I bet it

was a factor.

I haven't encountered any fogging per se, but I have one DW pistol were the bluing is turning an almost purple color. I have a buddy who's old Kimber is doing the same thing. Anybody else ever see this or have a gun with the same discoloration?

I've got the same clouding on my 15-2 in the same place.  It's so little that I didn't notice it until I got it home and was taking a close look.  It's not bad enough yet that I will do anything about it.  Glad to know that this is not all that uncommon.  My s/n is 1646xx.

I think the reason they all fog in that area is due to the polishing.  If you look at most DW's in the fog area, the polishing is not as fine as the rest of the frame.  On some models you can actually see fine swirl marks under the blue.

Thats what we call the Barney effect. Shows up in some DWs and other brands as well sometimes. I have heard it has something to do with silica levels were to high on the casting molds.  Doesn't hurt the gun. Several of mine have it.

In some collecting circles it is know as "Plumb" , and some don't mind it at all.

I kind of like it on this 1953 Ruger of Mom's.

Ok, I didn't forget, had a small delay and also was letting the new blue

bath in oil for a bit but she's all together and cleaned up now.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow,
