What do they call that when you don't learn the first time ? ?
My #1 44 started to get a fog spot about 8 months ago and then
it seemed it almost turned Plum over night. Now I don't mean just
a little Plum like some of the Dans look in the bright sun light but
really Plum even when inside with poor light and outside it could pass
for one of those lil California rasin dudes !
By now your probably thinking surely he didn't again….Yep I did !
Burned right through the bluing, or should I call it purpling,
with the Flitz again.
So after few phone calls, numerous emails, striping all the bluing
and quite a few hours of polishing I headed to Richmond OH.
with frame in hand today.

First I would like to say that the machines and setup at EWK are impressive !
I'd love to go back over and check out the 5 axis CNC when he starts making
the rear sight assemblies.
OK, now for the scoop. The model 15 I had reblued last year at Blue Ridge
Bluing is starting to show plum again. The reblue was a short term
fix and I could see the plum in bright light after about 4-6 months. The
process of cooking the metal in boiling water for an extra long period of time
does not work, at least for my gun.
Eric on the other hand had some conversations with a fellow that refinishes
old Rugers (old Rugers were plagued with the same Plum problem due to
silica levels in their castings) and he gave Eric a recipe that has kept reblued
Rugers black for over ten years.
Anyway , nuff talk, pics say it all.
* Note , this a 44 frame and trigger guard. The shroud is a 15 I picked
on GB.

Just looked at the parts again today, all I can say is Wow ! I am letting
parts bath in oil for two weeks, this is an opinion of procedure but I
have personally seen paper towel leave fine scratches on fresh hot
bluing and fully believe in letting parts cure in oil for a time period.
I want to give a great big Thank You to Eric at EWK Arms for one
of the finest bluing jobs I have ever seen .
Even though Eric can't except whole guns or even just the frame right
now anything else you need blued is fair game for all those who did
not know EWK does bluing. Eric blues once to twice a month
usally but thats pretty good I say because I have, and so have others,
waited six to eight weeks from a bluing shop.
I will post some in a few when I get the 44 back together.
