I think a while ago I was asked about my case. We all have our different ways to house our DWs. Not much new under the sun. Here are my thoughts on transporting my Dan Wesson WidowMaker. In fact all my handguns travel in these cases. Storage and presentation are different.
I had a brief stint shipping computers (big things back then) to international trade shows. And be there to make sure the system behaved. I learned a lesson. Custom Anvil cases. Pack it so you can just throw it on the ground and laugh.
Ready to go, anywhere.
these camera cases are about $35-$50, and last a lifetime. Very cheap insurance.
I took out the middle layer
And got a stiffer foam for the customization. I don’t want any movement. Don’t remember where I got it, probably from a packing box.
Here is the middle I’ve used forever.
I want good, tight compression when I snap the case shut. You need a bit of experimentation to see how proud you need to stand each item. Easier than it sounds. The speedloaders & case are full depth. The other pieces are custom depths, like scope, mounts, 6” shroud & 2” dickhead travel as one piece. Here’s how I did it.
So from the back
You can see I cut right through for all silhouettes. Then shaved them and glued them back. (Shoot has a great tutorial for foam shapers)
I have my H&K P9S that has a little different travel arrangement. It comes in its own case, never used other than at home.
So its camera case is a wee bit different. The middle comes as a pre-cut module – ½ inch cubes? I use it for the outer inner.
And use the foam from its original box as the centerpiece.
This case is easily configured and used for transporting other handguns in a similar manner. Guess you could the foam out of the PP if you wanted.
"close isn't good enough"
