My gun club is offering the Utah ccw permit class this week. Its $100 an about four hours including the finger printing. Is this worth the time and money not to mention getting finger printed? It would allow me to carry in a state I visit frequently that doesn't recognize my PA permit.
What do they teach in these type classes that takes so long?
PA is a Shall Issue state, so the permit only requires an application, fee and background check. What will I be learning in the class?

Around these parts $85 in common, sometimes $55-$60 and one dealer is $85
but free with a $399 or up gun purchase.
Depending on the instructor you'll likely to hear a lot of stuff that seems
"common sense" but will need to be said to cover the bases due to the
fact the this maybe the first time the student has ever owned, held or
even shot a gun.
Don't give up hope yet ! There should be some type of range time involved !

My only reason for even thinking of one is that it would allow me to carry in Delawere as they don't recognize the PA permit but do recognize the Utah permit. This whole thing is rather stupid in my opinion.
Why can't we have a simple system that allows reciprocity?

Well... that's a love and hate thing, that requires more Federal control
and less individual rights of each State which of course is what those
Ole-fore-Fathers didn't want to happen...remember ?

I won't have time for this class right now so I'll have to wait.
With that said, I found it interesting that one of the requirements for the permit is finger printing. PA doesn't require finger printing for our permits. Here is an idea for a poll, how many of you had to be finger printed for your ccw permits? Is PA unique?

In CT:
Fingerprints-Yes. They also made it clear that they would review their (local PD) activity in my neighborhood for any kind of issues with me, like loud parties, neighbors complaints, etc. They can elect to interview my neighbors to assess my behavior and character.
They also "request" three notarized personal references from people in my community, attesting to my character and stability. The references "should" state that the signer is aware that the reference is in conjunction with an application to carry a gun. The reference letter is not required by State statute, but it's pretty clear that your processing may be slowed up without them.
Under CT regulations, the local PD (and then the state) shall issue within 8 weeks, in many towns it takes much longer, and the wait is getting longer with the big increase in applications. Mine was about 6 weeks, but that was almost 8 years ago.
Some local PD's have lots of creative obstacles, like making only 3-4 appointments per week available for Permit applications. Some localities are good, some are not.
Two cities in CT actually have handgun carry prohibition on the books, which are unenforceable. The interesting thing about the CT Permit is that it is a Permit to Carry with no mention of "concealed", in effect making Open Carry legal.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
