I'm with you on the Judge. One day I was talking to my uncle and he said he was thinking about getting one and all I could was look at him funny.
I have a Hi-point 9 mm pistol I bought from a co-worker and keep for my dads cabin. Its in a tackle box, the damp basement at the cabin in the boat and around the lake. I swear this thing has been dropped, mistreated, killed more than one snake and dirty as heck. I never really took her apart to clean too many spring and other crap. Guess what? It eats anything you feed her to this day. I honestly think its just a simple design, its made here in Ohio and it just goes bang every time. I think I have $75 invested in her.

I have been called a Gun Snob because of the guns I own, and that title is fine with me. I like quality guns and only buy stuff I really want to own, not just for trading material. Thus, there are many I will never buy.
Glocks or any other plastic fantastic pistols
Taurus
Rossi
Jennings, Raven, Lorcin...the entire lot of cheap autos
Any Ruger MKIII with that stupid loaded chamber indicator
That also brings up the Shoot & Missums with the stupid lock
Eastern-block military crap
AR-15 type guns
Black powder guns
Hi Pointe...unless I need a paperweight
Hmmm...there can be a lot more if I individualize certain models

I will never ever buy a S&W, I still haven't forgotten that company for bending to the wills of the Clinton Administration. At that point, being owned by a British firm, they should have gone out of business!!!
No plastic guns
No chinese stuff
I try to buy American, but there are always exceptions:
Browning BAR made in Belgium in 30.06
Colt made by JP Sauer & Sohns in W. Germany in .300 WBY Mag
Taurus PT-92 made before 1985 in 9mm
Happyness is a Hot DW and a pile of used brass!!! Rich

I will...but it sure won't be a new one, for the very same reason you've stated. I want to get a 29-2 again & would also like to find a few early 1900's revolvers that just say "Made in USA" on the frame. That's back when a Smiff was still a Smiff.

I never say never --however, there are exceptions--(any gun for $25 I'm there)....
No junk like Lorcin, Jennings, etc
No plastic (I don't own any *locks)
No damascus--If I can't shoot it no point in owning it
No class III -- ammo is too expensive to toss downrange
No 380's or 32's --Why bother?
No Hi-point pistols--big bulky junk
I do own two Hi-points -- both 9mm carbines, paid under $100 for each of them, shoot them to death and never had a problem. Love both of them !!! My brother and I have run countless rounds through them and they refuse to break--both are amazingly accurate at 100 yards (scoped).

I am not too sure If I agree with all of you guys.
I have been dissapointed with a few of the guns I have owned.
For sure the Ruger mini 14 is a dissapointment, especially when you have to add a barrel stabalizer to get it to shoot a 2 inch group instead of a 6 inch circle at 100 yds, but I still have it.
Then there was the 45 Kimber that developed a ridge in the back of the lower that caused all kinds of ejection problems...after they repaired it, I traded it for my DW with 4 barrels. Of course my Kimber 38 super with laser is a great shooter. My buddy has a 45 that is pitting. I'm thru with Kimbers. What a bummer!
In defense of the Judge....
I would not want to be the misplaced person that is caught rifling thru my home if I catch him with my Judge with laser. I mean really! Who in their right mind wants to be shot 5 times with "OO" buckshot! That bad boy is awesome. I like the 45 Long Colt part too. It is the best home defense gun I have. Really! I would be hard to claim self defense if you shoot a man of 12 feet away from you?
As for a dislike for S&W.....My safe is full of unfired J frame 36-1's and I am still looking. My CCW is a stainless S&W.
I am thinking most gun owners have a thing of some guns and dislike others for justifiable reasons. I guess you have to grow up with the older guns to see how much better the new ones are now.
AR15's! Must be a fettish! I have four.
Now back to the point....I would only own a Glock if someone gave me one.

I'll play...
No low end arms... well sorta.
I own an old Taurus. She's a good copy of the S&W 66. I used to be the go to guy when someone needed cash. That's how I picked up the Taurus, and my second DW for that matter. There was also a Leupold scope mounted on the Taurus. I've not shot it in many years but, this Taurus seems okay. That said, no Taurus ever again.
I'm glad to hear some good things about Hi Point. Doubtful that I'll ever own one on purpose. A pal had a HP .45 briefly pass through his hands. I could not believe how much of a cinder block that thing is.
I carried a Kel Tech P3AT as a BUG. Mandated no less than .38 cal left little option except the .380. Some would consider the KT as low end, it likely is. This P3AT is a 2nd gen. that runs fine as long as it's lubed. When one needs ultimate concealability, low weight or space on your body is at a premium, the mouse guns have a place.
I have a Bersa. A gift from an exGF because she didn't like the way it looked. I think it's cute, a duotone .380. Haven't shot it though, and wouldn't buy one.
There are others... but, I'm likely in the never-say-never camp too.

I didn't want to drift so I thought I start another thread for this. But, DWLover went ahead, and thus, so will I…
I know this isn't an opinion thread. However, I'm gonna type a couple of mine based upon posts I've read.
This thread reinforces that guns are a mindset and taste for most. I know a couple of guys that have become pretty wealthy dealing in collector's arms. I too have little use for them. But, if I was smarter and had the means, I would consider getting rich on collectors.
So, in the mid '80s my mindset moved to fighting arms. My hunting desires waned and I had to carry for protection. I didn't expect to find auto-loader fans on a DW forum. But, I'm a bit surprised to read the *lock haters.
When I was told to shelve my DW and carry a Glock, I wasn't too happy. There was no real basis for my distaste… I'd heard all the Tupperware horror stories. But I being basically ignorant, wasn't prejudiced. The 1911 guys were livid! IIRC, one of them even quit.
Since those days, I've carried a variety… H&K, Beretta, Sig… all fine arms in their own right. And now, I am opinionated in my old age. I have never been in a gun fight, thank God. But, I do have countless training hours toward that end. Today I can honestly say, if ever in a fight for my life, Tupperware is the sidearm I want in my holster to fight me to the rifle.
Never a .223 fan, I didn't own an AR either. Then one day in 2000, we were mandated by PC concerns and some misguided "experts" to the 5.56. I held out for a while, then broke down and bought a Bushmaster. As things progressed, along with my education on the AR platform, I picked up real fighting ARs. (Advice? If you're serious about a fighting rifle, don't buy Bushmaster or any low end AR).
My opinion of the AR has changed a little. I'm still not crazy about the 5.56 and wish the military would adopt the 6.8. HoHum though, I have a bit of the BRD (black rifle disease). The AR platform is a money pit when you do it right! Also, the AR is PC, looked at as the "good guy gun." The AK as the "bad guy gun." I might be in the camp that every red-blooded American should own an AR… just because.
As said in my first post, the .380 cal. has a niche. In a primary defensive caliber, not. For back up or a concealability platform, probably.
The AK has its merits. As an urban combat, EOTWAWKI firearm, the AK belongs in every safe. The Norinco AKs/SKSs are known for their quality among AKs. The Chinese trigger is hard to beat. AKs are not designed as 150 yd. arms, and thus must be judged on that curve. If you want an AK to be a straight shooter, you'll have to buy an Arsenal or VEPR.
The Judge, I can see the fun in it… if Taurus wasn't the lead.
I wanted to add, S&W got a couple of detractors here. Smith politically went through a hard time. When it bonded with Smillery and Slick Willy, it wasn't owned by anyone who cared about our traditions and strong beliefs. Today, S&W has been on the road to redemption. S&W J-Frames rock as a BUG. A reminder, Colt sold out gun owners without signing any politically driven agreements. Colt still doesn't care about civilian customers... this is more of a shame than Smith, IMO.

Ok I put up with the Taurus bashing....but when RG came out I had to put
my foot down
To be honest, I did not buy this model 66 , it was a move/garage clean out find and given
to me by Bro-n-law and wouldn't lock up, end up fabricating a flat bolt/trigger spring just
like the ones the old colts used to use. So far I have put 300 rnds through it and it works
great not to mention grapefruit size groups at 20 yrds. Looks like a good $50 to $75
trade in on my next gun show buy.

I've owned 2 Taurus guns, one a brief consolation purchase when I stupidly didn't buy a DW 722 (that omission has since been fixed) when I could have. The second was a PT 1911, which was perfect for my needs-entry level/first 1911. Since gone away once I got a much nicer 1911. Taurus has a very poor Customer Service rep.
Mini-14? Had one, it was fun, but didn't measure up to the AR that replaced it (for much more money)
Smith M&P 9 and 9c- Good guns, but the good old Model 59 outshoots them both.
I don't accumulate a lot of guns, when I buy one that does the job much better than something I already have, the less effective one goes away.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I need to provide some insight for the Taurus customer service. Once I broke one piece in my PT 92, called Taurus and they said mail it to them in Florida and they would replace it. Within a week I had a new piece, no questions, no payment.
While I'm here I'd like to ammend my list:
I would never buy a 22 caliber handgun. Don't see the sense in it.

Did I miss something? what is this one?

Just me going Pro Bono for the underdogs out there. To be honest I might
buy or fix or cleanup a cheap gun but they usally don't stay around here long.
When I sell a gun in the $50-$150 range it's a matter of hours not days or weeks
before it sells......definitly a market out there.

I'm certainly not knocking the Glock's performance obviously they are excellent guns based on the number of law enforcement agencies that have adopted them but they just not pretty!
My wife attended the Citizens Police Academy for her job (corporate security for a major bank) and had the opportunity to shoot a Glock. Ever since she had talked about how much she liked it. I told her that I just couldn't buy one and she ask if I had ever shot one... I replied no that I just couldn't get pass the looks. She just can't understand why I would put beauty over function... I have my CZ75 for HD so I don't really feel the Glock brings anything to the table that I can't do with the CZ.
I held one at the gun show thinking maybe the wife would get one for Christmas but just couldn't bring myself to do it. But maybe this year she will get one...
