I had so many toy guns and cap guns that I could not say which was first. I do remember at a young age having a cool set of guns that fired suction cup darts, it was a pair of kinda 1911-like pistols and an over-under shotgun looking long gun.
My first BB gun was a Daisy model 95, I still have it.
The first firearm my Dad bought just for me was a Winchester model 94 30/30, I still have it too, although years of deer hunting in PA winters have taken their toll so it is semi-retired. The first firearm I bought for myself was a blackpowder .44 revolver, I was 19 at the time and nobody would sell me a handgun so I went the blackpowder route. I still have it too I guess I am a hoarder.
I remember I sent my check and the order form for the revolver (to Gander Mountain maybe?) and in 4-6 weeks I received it in the mail, I still remember the look on my mom's face when I pulled that big hunk of pistol out of the box on the kitchen table!

Those are treasures to keep for a lifetime. My dad had his old Stevens double barrel down for me to clean and lube for him. He mentioned that it was over 70 years old now and still works very well. He said someday it'll be yours. He said it was HIS first gun. I'll keep that one always. It needs a blueing but is in great shape for a gun coming up on three quarters of century old.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
My father
If a man designed it, and a man built it, then a man can fix it.
My grandfather
Interesting topic, I had to put some thought process into it and then it made me smile,
Toy
Wasn't a gun per say however it did shoot a projectile and that was my trusty slingshot, however it was short lived due to the fact my father confiscated it after I allegedly shot my younger brother with it, repeatedly...No proof, and my younger brother to this day still reminds my of that.
Then the usual western style cap guns...Metal not plastic.
BB / Pellet
I be leave it was a Crossman .177 pellet pump bolt action, and yes given to me by my father and made me promise NOT to shot my brother, I was older at this point.
Firearm
I don't like to admit this however I feel I'm among friends here, right???... Davis 32 Cal. with wood grain grips, made in Chino CA. Talk about a "Saturday night Special", I was young and it was given to me, later on I ended up trading it for a very late model Jeep Cherokee, the type you saw in the old Lassie shows, and cracked the frame "stump jumping" it in the woods.

if you find one...what's your plan?

1962 My first gun was a Winchester 75 .22 target rifle. I use to sling it over my shoulder and walk into the police Dep. to shoot on their range. No one ever batted an eye. Still in the gun rack.
1963 Wards Westerfield 20 Ga Pump shotgun. 10th birthday present, the gun was probably 20 years old when it was given to me. Still in the gun rack.
1974 Smith & Wesson K 38, Killen Tx. Bought and sold in 1984
1978 44 Automag. Sold in 1984, Reno NV, wish I hadn't done that.
1981 Colt Python 6" Blued, Littleton Co. Sold in 1984, wish I hadn't done that.
Since then I've gotten my dad's guns, and purchased a few on my own. This weekend I got a DW 15-2 2 1/2, 4/ 6 & 8 barrel.
Next one, a DW 44?

But my first was a .22lr single shot rifle that my uncle gave me at age 5. Dad kept is in the gun cabinet, but anytime we went into the woods, or range, I could shoot it.
Ar age 12 I for xmas I got a Savage O/U 20 ga .22 mag. That was a great gun. Had a Weaver scope too. Got my first black eye when I forgot to hit the toggle from .22 to 20 ga..OUCH!

First toy:
I made my own guns out of wood (for playing "army" in those days before political correctness), including a Thompson, an Enfield (not sure where I got that idea), and my absolute pride, an M1919 Browning with a pintle and 92 round belt of linked but spent .30-06 rounds that I got from the local National Guard armory.
First real gun:
Remington 12c .22 pump rifle from my dad. Lots of gophers were sorry about that.

Growing up I had plenty of the black toy M-16s with the clackity-clack auto triggers, early 1970s.
Later on there was a Crossman pump BB/pellet rifle and I had various single shot shotguns and bolt action .22 rifles at my disposal for hunting and plinking once I proved I could safely handle them. However I was never given any real firearms or allowed to buy them.
My first firearm was one I found for sale on a bulletin board in a hallway of the Virginia Military Institute in 1989 and purchased for $250. It was this DW 715 VH6 that I still own today.
