I just got back from the range with this month's DWAS purchases. (44 VH4 and W12). It's an outside range and it's right at 20 degrees in the sun today at 2pm.
As always both shot great. However, I decided to put a Hogue Monogrip on the 44 this morning.
After 50 rounds through the W12 I decided to see how my 44 light bear loads felt (HSM 305gr gas check ) before trying out the Buffalo Bore +P+.
My Ruger Red Hawks all had smooth grips so I was surprised at how nasty the Hogues felt. This wasn't fun.
Of course they were cold and I wasn't wearing gloves. I'll put the stock grips back on for now.
I'd like to get a finger groove style grip in smooth wood. LB makes some great looking ones.
What's your favorite grip ???
Hi BobAk, I also don't care for rubber grips, Hogue being the lesser of two evils. I retire any Pachmyers that accompany a purchase. In Florida we have the opposite problem, sweaty palms. I find finger groove smooth wood to be my favorite. I prefer the combat over the Sacramento style. I achieve a more natural point of aim. I also like the smooth target grips from early eighties as opposed to the very stout target grips of prior years. Of course zebra wood grips are for formal occasions only. I do have to confess that I haven't shot any blockbuster .44 loads like Buffalo Bore yet. We have bear but not your bear. Ours generally are not overly large.

For shooting large frame Dans, I usually prefer the old Pachmayr Presentation grip. It fits me just a little better than the Hogue rubber grip with the finger grooves.
I keep the original wood grips on for looks, but I don't like the shape of them for shooting. I would like to get an LB large frame made someday that fits my hand.

I have that same Hogue rubber grip on my 715 as well as an LB Special. The all around feel of the LB is far superior. The Hogue, however, provides more sure handed gripping on those 100+ sweaty palmed Texas days.

if you find one...what's your plan?
