I read a post / thread here about some one , Erik perhaps ?, who will do a custom Magna-Port type porting of not only a shroud but of course also the barrel.
I am going to buy a new CZ / DW fully lugged shroud in 44Mag , and from what I see they don't sell factory ported versions.
Even tho my gunsmith is a master smith, I would rather have a guy who is a Dan-o-maniac like all of us do it as there may be some kind of 1/1000th inch little quirks that only a guy who does a lot of DW's would know.
Any info would be moocho-appricioso

Sorry I don't do magnaporting. What you are looking for is a ported DW barrel and shroud. Like Dave said your best bet would be to find a used one. Ported 44 barrels IMHO are a negative, and a DW with the two piece barrel/shroud setup is not the best way to go. Ask someone that had one stuck together and needed to get it apart.

I may have started all this by suggesting that Eric "might" be willing to put MagnaPort type slots into a non-ported shroud, which is clearly a suggestion that I should not have ever put out there.
My opinion is that the whole DW "porting" method is probably pretty ineffective, and may well create more problems that it solves. The DW barrel/shroud system does not lend itself to a MagnaPort solution, which is a time tested and very effective modification. The only result that I see from the DW method is to fill up your shroud with a bunch of lead, jacket shavings, crud, and unburned powder that makes shroud removal difficult.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Its been a long day and I may be a bit tired but I'll throw this idea out there and see what you all think of it. With all the problems of the ported BA/shroud, could we use the same weakness as a strength. What I'm getting at is, could a screw on compensator be made that would attach to the end of a barrel the way a flash supressor would attach? I know getting it lined up would be the hard part, but that would help with muzzel rise and recoil without filling the shroud with crud. Picture the compensated BA of a 7445 but with the slots in a removable add on piece.
What do you think, stupid or not? Be honest.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

If I understand this correctly, it could not work with a Power Control (already ported) barrel. A screw in compensator that replaces the barrel nut would still trap the exhaust gases inside a standard shroud. A non-ported barrel would work with this concept, as long as the comp "chamber" had the muzzle end, screw on cap that matched the bore diameter, leaving space for the muzzle gases to fill the comp, and then be compressed and forced through the top oriented compensating slots.
I think!

My 2 cents ... Yes a compensator could be added to a Dan Wesson. If the compensator was made correctly there is no reason why it would not work. The problem I see is trying to use the compensator as a barrel nut. I believe that it would be better to have a barrel made or cut down to allow barrel nut installation over a barrel that cleared the shroud by a half to one inch. This would better support the compensator and allow a jam nut to align and lock the comp in place. R S

I designed a barrel nut style compensator with a simple adjustment for comp hole positioning and sent it to Eric. He also designed a variation on the theme that would work as well. The nice about doing it this way would be that you would only need 2; one for each frame size.
Now if we can just get Eric to make some; stainless steel, if you please, Eric.
