I want to share something that just happened last night. Me and my wife attended an out of town funeral for her uncle and stayed in a name brand chain hotel. We had a nice room with one of those pass thru doors that connects two rooms. I noted it was unlocked and unbolted when we got in and I threw the bolt, but it only engaged the jamb by about 1/16" due to a very large gap between the door and jamb. About 9 pm we got back to the room and could hear the couple in the ajoining room talking very loudly, rude but no big deal. They left shortly thereafter and we went to bed.
At 3:30 we awaken to hear the couple in that room engaged in a VERY loud and profane argument. They were obviously drunk/stoned/high. He is upset that the woman tried to ditch him at the party while he was in the 'bafroom'. She insisted she was trying to score them both some 'dope'. He said 'then why was you in the corner shootin' up when I found you?'.
By this point we are now both fully awake and very annoyed.
The man now very much wanted to exit his room, and he opened his side of the connecting door and begins banging and slamming on our side. He exclaimed, again VERY loudly, "how the F*&^ do you get outta this F*&^%$# place".
I exclaimed that that was not the exit door and to stop trying to open it. His reply was something like 'mind your own MFing business' and continued to mess with the door. At this point my wife is very fearful and has gotten out of bed and gone to the other side of the room. I am sitting in bed with the door only about three feet from the foot end.
By this time I have my Valor in my hand and a bead drawn on the door at about chest height. I again told him to stop and not enter our room or I would defend myself. At that moment I clicked the slide release and let the slide slam into battery. That did the trick, the must have recognized that sound and shut his side of the door. I sat there in the seated position for several minutes with a bead still drawn on the door and tried to relax.
Then we hear them 'making up', actually sounded like the sound track from a bad '80's porn movie. That went on for over an hour! The woman was 'very vocal'!
We were going to call the cops, but realized we'd be filling out paperwork the rest of the night and had to head home early due to bad weather. We turned up our TV and watched some movie and finally got up about 6 and went to eat and check out.
I told the desk lady about the couple and she said a few other guests had complained and that those folks would not be welcomed back.
I was glad I had my Valor along, not my EDC, and I don't know why I chose to carry it that day but I'm glad I did, I think the slide slamming home helped diffuse a bad situation. I'm just glad I didn't have to use it.
The entire 4 hours home I kept wondering what would have happened if I had not been carrying.
When we got to the room my wife had asked why I had my 'piece' to a funeral? and I said, 'because you never know when you will need it'. After last night, she said, 'I'm glad you had your 'piece' along'. I don't think she will question where I carry ever again. Now to get her to carry all the time.
I'm now tired and ready for a stiff drink and a nap.
Sorry to vent.

My signature line below pretty much sums up my point of view about owning/carrying a firearm. You just never know.
And I think the DWF here is the perfect place for you to vent about such an occurrence.

Glad it turned out to be a non-event for you. I carry everywhere I go and where it's legal.
I don't remember where we were but, one day my granddaughter wasn't real comfortable with our surroundings when she looked at me and asked "Papa, do you have your gun with you"? I said "yes dear I do". She relaxed a bit and just said "good".
I make no effort to hide it from the children. Many folks would disagree with that but, they take comfort in knowing it is there and they know not to discuss it with strangers and that includes their teachers.

I don't think you're venting at all, but passing along another good training story for the rest of us to absorb and learn from. I'm working on carrying all the time, everywhere, always (except where illegal, and then I'm not telling). I liken it to wearing my watch (or to a bit more graphic, to wearing underwear, which I do always - NOT telling again LOL).

Well done Sir, Well done...
Glad it turned out the way it did.
Carrying a firearm brings a great responsibility in doing so.
Something not to be taken lightly and your resulting recollections and reflections on what if
will mean more now than ever.

I posted this story on another site and I got so many people criticizing me. Apparently I wasn't clear in my description, I was NOT planning on shooting thru a door. I aimed at the door at about man height in case the other party came thru and would not yield to ANOTHER warning. So many folk assumed, and you know what happens then.
I added this to the other site too, just for clarification.

Scorpio,
I think you did right brother. Shame you had to come to such a point but glad it all turned out good. I don't see how anybody could have confusion from the story. I am finding, however, there are more and more adults w/o much common sense.
Boss Dog,
I have always believed it wise and have taught my children about my weapons. It is the only good choice when you carry and keep weapons in the home. I also, try to teach them that their best weapon of defense is a calm mind. You cannot think if you let panic control your thoughts. Resort, to a weapon when left with no other choice.

To me this is a good example of someone who is comfortable and proficient with firearms reacting in a safe and sane manner.
Nice job.....
Just one little question.... "actually sounded like the sound track from a bad ’80’s porn movie."
Probably heard stories about such things from a brother or cousin???
I ask because I certainly can't imagine what kind of sounds those might be!
