Will a 375 SM fire a 357 magnum round. will it fit? I thought the 375 was longer but still the same diameter.
Thanks, stove pipe
*EDIT* by C F...
Before anyone tries this, read the following posts...
NO, this will not work & is NOT advisable, nor is it recommended!

I just tried to fire a primed 357 mag case in my 375 supermag and it did fire but I don't think anyone should try it for real. It would certainly swell the case so it was unusable if it didn't split and of course the .357 diameter bullet bouncing down the barrel sized for .375 bullets would not be good. My experience comes from once firing a 41 mag cartridge in a 44 magnum revolver. (Please don't do that either.)

The 375SM is a unique cartridge and to my knowledge has no other rounds that can be fired in its chamber. At first I was thinking too as Shootist did that this thread was mis titled for the 357SM aka Maximum, but after reading the other post from Ranger we have to make sure nobody gets hurt. Please do not fire a .357 caliber anything in your .375 Supermag revolver.

My first thought was as shootist357 said that he merely mistyped 375SM when he meant 357SM. But then I got to thinking that many people I have met have been very confused by the 375SM and I have met a few that thought it was a 357 since sometimes US arms and ammo makers are less than specific when naming cartridges, ie: 38 special is .357" diameter.
My next thought was that a 357 mag would just slide into the 375SM chamber too far for the firing pin to hit the primer.... but I didn't know that for sure.
My third thought was maybe I should try it and I was very surprised that at least in my 375SM it would fire it. I believe that some cases the rim diameter would be a bit smaller or the chamber might not be as tight at the base and it wouldn't fire but it might!

Uhhh…yeah. Good grief! Gotta stop this right here & NOW!!
NO...There's not way a .375 will chamber or fire a .357 Mag round...the two rounds are a world apart from each other. Saying this will work is akin to trying to fire a .357 Mag in a .44 Mag gun... .. (sputter) ... .. it ain't gonna happ'n Cap'n.
