So... my wife bought her a fancy new Nook Color, whihc means I got a free Nook Simple Touch reader. Its pretty old technology, but it does what its designed to do (with any color or flash). She was getting pissy because I had not used it yet. But the problem is.. I can't find anything REALLY useful to put on it. I quit reading fiction long ago as my OCD makes me finish the book (even if I dont sleep/eat/bath till I am done).

What I had hoped to find were some PDF relaoding data files that would be useful. But most sites are just web, no PDF. Now don't get me wrong, the Hornady data page is great. But you have to be on a computer and online to see it.

So I got to wondering. The Nook is tiny, smaller than Net-book ( which is a tiny laptop)..so it would work right nice on a  crowded reloading bench. I am thinking about putting my reloading data on PDF to store on the Nook. Thing is it seem pretty easy to upload that to Barns and Noble for them to sell.

So the question is, do you think there are MEN that would use a eBook reader versus a PC to access reloading data? Or is it just not a "manly" medium?

Not sure on this!  I like the feel of paper so I guess I won't say never, though for now prints are what i like!  I don't reload (as of yet).  It does seem like a good idea (unless B&N sells your info)!

One day I will break down and get me a tablet just waiting for the right one to hit the market.  My wife loves her Nook Color.

I'm just not that familiar with them--I have an older laptop I keep all my guy stuff on--firearms database, scope inventory, project gun data, etc..  I back it all up every month.

Everything for the most part is word, excel, PDF, etc.

Well, I have both the nook color and the kindle fire.

I've owned the nook for about a year and don't like it much for a variety of reasons that are too numerous to mention.

My daughter and son-in-law knew I didn't like the nook so they bought me the kf for Christmas.   So far I like it better because it works as a PC type device better than the nook.  It's also easier to read than the nook.  Easier start-up and shut-down and faster charging.  However, it still has the charger connecter on the bottom like the nook, so it can be uncomfortable to use for reading when plugged-in.  However, being lighter than the nook it's not as uncomfortable.

So I guess I covered all the issues with the nook anyway. smile

Oh oh, I missed one; the nook automatically loads your bookshelf with a bunch of stuff you don't want and will never read.  Of course, you have to buy them if you do want to read them.

As far as using it on a reloading bench, though I don't have one yet, I think I'd stick with paper.

JMO.

I've had a Kindle for a year, this year I got a Kindle Fire, which so far I really like. I also got a month free of Amazon Prime, which among other things allows me one free book each month from the Kindle Lending Library.

I picked up Massad Ayoob's "Concealed Carry" to read for free.

FYI-the Fire is great for me, I use an Android phone and get all my Apps from the Amazon App Store, so they share automatically on the Fire. It's the logical fit for me between my phone and my laptop. The Fire is WiFi only, but since my phone can run as a 3G hotspot, it's pretty much "take anywhere" if I want to.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I have the first generation Nook (the one with the little color screen at the bottom), my wife gave it to me as a birthday gift about 2.5 years ago.  I get a lot of use out of it; probably read about 2 to 3 books a month.  I had about 1200 ebooks loaded on the nook at one point.  Now I keep it backed up to my PC and off-load most of the ebooks.  I also have a tablet (Motorola Xoom) but find the screen too hard on my eyes for reading books.

A huge selection of ebooks can be found at:

Edit: Mike, you can turn on the "Airplane Mode" on your nook.  This turns off the wireless radios (WiFi and/or 3G) and stops the nook from automatically loading a bunch of "free" magazines and books.  This will also extend the battery charge life.
