Or you would pull your hair out Mad.  Friday I got the hundred rounds  that I

order from Reed's Ammo for the 357 SuperMag I recently bought a couple weeks ago

at a gun show. Don't know why but I decided to put a few in the cylinder, I guess

to see if they fit or something, anyway the cylinder crane feels strange like it was dragging

so I tug on it and the whole crane cylinder comes out of the frame ! Well after I

disassemble (Thanks landtoy80 and Superdan  for Large Frame Disassembly Tutorial)

I find that a thick rubber half o-ring had been in place of a crane lock. Needless to say

I had to check everything else for cobb work but it all seems great with little to no wear.

With the fresh oil I found I can only imagine someone had disassebled this gun to lubricate

and lost the little $15 crane lock in the process and rigged the o-ring for a sale !

With the next show not until Sept. I will have to stew before I get a chance tho see the

seller, He's lucky there's a summer break and I'm sure he knows nothing about it Wink.

I gave this gun the go over tug, pull, check, wiggle, look & feel test like always. And I know

I had opened and closed the cylinder at least 20 times before this showed up....but really..

an o-ring...? lol2   I guess I will have to find time to call CZ for a crane lock tomorrow,

I will probably get a couple for the large frames  an a couple for the small frames while

I'm at it.

Any  one else with a "gunsmith should be shot" story would sure help me right now.

Better that you found about Bubba the Home Gunsmith this way, rather than in a more dangerous way, but it still sucks.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

An o-ring fix...good one!Slap  If they still used metal wire on hay bales, it may have ended up being a chunk of wire in there instrad of an o-ring.rofl

I guess that's how it goes sometimes when buying used guns...sorta like buying used cars.

No way superdan, your one of the good guys ! I guess I should have said

"wannabe gunsmith should be shot"

Called CZ/DW today and ordered the crane locks , was told by lady (not Ginny)

that the supermags and the large frames use different crane locks, I thought

for sure they were the same but maybe I am wrong. Anyway I ordered some of

each. Hopefully they are here by this weekend but I think CZ/DW still only ships

on Thursdays.

Blacktop,

I had purchased a 357 back in Spring of this year that when I received it and opened the cylinder the latch fell out on the floor Frown.  It happens to all of us.  Had to get the latch spring and retaining screw from CZ for that one too.

A man cannot have too many SuperMags

So I found some time the weekend of the 4th to get the SuperMag back together.

The crane locks for the large frames and SuperMags are the same so I have a

spare for either or. These have to be filed down and fitted but not a big deal.

I even tore down and checked the 44 afterwards , From now on I think I will

do a disassemble on any future DW purchases for piece of mind.
