Jack , can't see your rib well, is it vented or solid ? you asked about

mounting the scope and the rib type will make a difference.

cool-pics So if you don't like the idea of drill and tap you can install 

special Leupold rings that mount to rib, they can be pricey at times.

 

Or the b-square clamp on style which you can find in the $20 to $50 range.
