Relocated to New Members-Steve

I just picked up this DW on local gunsite. Please help with ID and other info.

The serial number is 228xxx stamped Monson.

I haven't shot it yet but it feels good and pretty tight. I used to have S & W 10 & 19. Side-on-Serial-No-deleted-small.jpgImage Enlarger

dwf-welcome to dwf

That is a Model 715 .357 Magnum with a Vented Rib, Heavy Underlug barrel shroud. Shoot and enjoy !

Interestingly, the S/N appears to be in the format of the Model 15-2 blued .357 built in 1979.  It looks like a stainless gun, not stripped of the finish ... could this be a mis-stamped frame ?

Or possibly refinished in armalloy, or something similar. It may be the angle of the photo, but I don't see the overtravel adjustment screw in the frame behind the trigger.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

If it has a smooth finish it is a blue gun with a hard chrome finish. Stainless is a lightly brushed finish. Hard chrome is a breeze to keep clean and extremely durable. The only drawback is not being able to find shrouds. If it is hard chrome it is likely the barrel is blue. Your next Dan should be blue so you can acquire all the barrel lengths easily. You have heard of DWAS perhaps?

Thanks Guys

I will shoot it on Saturday, will check out the material I guess a magnet will establish if it is SS or a plated steel and will check for a trigger over travel screw.

Magnets will stick to a stainless DW. Be careful cause they will also scratch!

Well I shot it as planned on Saturday and loved it. I now want a 4" version. I thank you all for the advice and i think it is plated steel not SS. I have not looked at the barrel not inside to see what the steel looks like. I have to get a new front sight as the existing one has been filed to a point. Disappointed to find dealers in the States don't post to Aus. and can't find any dealers here, about to ask a friend to do some shopping for me...cheers.

Is that Australia or Austria ?

i lived in Sydney for 15-years and appreciate your dilemma.  What do you want, I'll ship it to you.

I worked for a year in Melbourne installing a system at the ANZ. Lovely city and had a great time enjoying the music scene .. got to see The Rolling Stones for my birthday !

Send me a link or describe what you want and I'm on it.  I've still got an account at CBA, so maybe you could just deposit the funds there.

Check your message Inbox, I'll send you a Private Message (PM) so we can sort out the details offline.
