Hello from Boise. I have been lurking for about 3 months, and have found wonderful information here.
Once upon a time: My brother-in-law surprised me several years ago by giving me his DW .357 w/ 6" barrel for Christmas. I was looking to buy a .357, and apparently he needed to get rid of a gun before my sister would let him buy another (which he already had, but don't tell her). After a brief discussion regarding his reasoning for moving to carrying a 10mm auto for business (hunting guide in north Idaho), I asked if he would sell his .357 to me and he replied, "probably". The next morning was the first time I have EVER been caught speechless. I opened a clearly hastily wrapped gift, and presently held my tongue as I could only think of swear words to cover the range of appreciation I felt regarding his generosity. With my young niece and nephews wondering what was in the box, I really could not say anything. I knew nothing of DW, but have absolutely loved this gun for the last 4 years.
Thanks to the info on this forum, I now know that I have an early 80's model 14-2 .357, made in Monson, Mass. I have learned from this forum how to strip, clean, reblue, repair, replace and speak relatively intelligibly regarding my favorite firearm. I will post a pic when I figure out how.
Thanks for all the information all you forum folks!
Cheers!
