Hi everyone. Just bought this early model 15 from an older guy at work that needed some $$$. While researching the gun I came across this forum, so I joined up. The gun is in absolute perfect condition. I didnt know anything about this gun until I bought it. I pretty much bought it because I wanted a .357mag. The manual was missing along with the tool to remove the barrel nut. There is a shim in the box though. The barrel nut was loose so I was able to dissassemble the shroud and barrel. Looking around at the different gun sites I havent seen any like mine. I understand this is the second design because it doesnt have the exposed nut. Pretty much all the models I've seen are the 15-2 models that dont have the pork chop shroud. I'm hoping to find a barrel nut tool to tighten up the barrel because I want to shoot this thing! I'm assuming I just stick the shim between the barrel and the cylinder and screw the barrel in until I can just lightly move the shim in and out. And than just tighten the nut.
Okinawanfighter first let me welcome you to the You will find out we love pictures here and you certainly started off great!
The gun appears to be in nice shape and its always cool to get the original box. you re correct this is a model 15 transitional model. These were only made for a short period of time before the more familiar model 15-2 was introduced. We have a few members that have pork chop models. Here is a link to the Pork Chop Pictures thread.
The shim (feeler gauge) you have is .006 and you simply put it between the barrel and cylinder when reinstalling the barrel. Also you want to make sure you check it on 6 bores because the cylinder face may not be true.
If you look in the right sidebar you can order a barrel wrench from Eric one of our members. These are great wrench wrenches and he will save you money over ordering from DW.
Hope this helps!

aboard, that's a great looking Porkchop.
Jody pretty much covered your questions & I'll 2nd the suggestion to buy one of Eric's wrenches, they're an excellent tool.
Out of curiosity, does your box still have it's label on it? I'm curious if it's labeled as a Model 15 or a 15-1. From what I've been able to learn so far about the 'Chops, yours should be a Model 15...but I'd love to be proven wrong, with a box label stating the proof.

Nice piece okinawanfighter.
I would tell you to shoot it, but I have no right as I have an unfired W12 in the safe that I refuse to shoot. However, if I thought it had been fired, I would probably shoot it.
Charger, I bet it is a model 15. Take a look at the rear sight- looks mighty W12- like.
