I have just purchased my first 1911, a Dan Wesson 10mm Razorback. I purchased the firearm to use for Hunting Whitetail Deer and Hogs in Georgia and wished it was offered completely in black ( just a personal preference). I will eventually have the pistol coated and install stag grips. I sold my Springfield XDM Tactical 45acp after reading multiple forums concerning ballistics and the crisp trigger pull and accuracy of the 1911 style pistol. I have plans to replace my 45acp with a Dan Wesson Valour due to all the positive comments concerning quality and reliability. This is not discredit any polymer guns I like them all but cant afford 10 pistols. I have A SW 44mag set up for long range shots but it is to heavy to carry on my on my side. My usage of a pistol is not for concealed carry but to have for recreational shooting, protection, and hunting. I have just opened my new 10mm and disassembled and cleaned/lubed using Slip2000 EWL oil and Slip2000 EWL grease for the slide (both very lightly)as instructed by a gun store in my area. I picked up 1bx 20 Hornady 155gr xtp but have not been able to shoot the gun yet. My concerns are before I purchase 300-500 rounds of ammo is what brand and grain ammunition to use for break in period. My plans are to break the firearm in first . Then see what the gun prefers for accuracy and efficient kill. 180gr in Cor-bon, Underwood, Double tap, Buffalo Bore. I also plan on purchasing several extra 10mm clips in either Checkmate/Chip McCormick/Wilson or ?.Just looking for ideas from others enthusiast with experience so I do not waste time and money getting familiar with this firearm and would appreciate any input , ideas, comments.

Welcome to DWF, and thanks for telling us about yourself. Based on some experiences noted here and other Forums, and if this is a new gun, I strongly urge you to review the DW Factory data on lubrication and break in.

This From 1911forum.com is from Keith at Dan Wesson on lubrication.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

X2 on Steve's recommendation to read what Keith describes as the best lubricants for DWs.  I have a few 10mm SA handguns for hunting myself.  You'll enjoy it.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Thanks for the input and sharing your ideas. I have not shot the gun yet so no harm done. I will remove the grease and oil my local gun shop recommended and purchase FP-10 & Militec .I have 300 rounds HSM 200GR on the way from Selway. I just want to make sure I am complying with every procedure to take proper care of my new Razorback 10mm. I will add in some JHP/CAST ammo after break in. Good Shooting

I will some day get a Dan Wesson in 10MM as well. Hope to read about your experience with this gun.

“We cannot but pity the boy who has never fired a gun; he is no more
humane, while his education has been sadly neglected.”

-Henry David Thoreau

“When some of my friends have asked me anxiously about their boys, whether
they should let them hunt, I have answered, yes – remembering that it was
one of the best parts of my education – *make* them hunters.”

-Henry David Thoreau
