Hello all, my name is Gavin and I am new to the revolver world. I started my collection with a DW 44 mag with a gapper and the barrel tool that I bought from a guy I work with in need of some cash. I gave $350 for the gun and 80 rounds. I don't know much about DW's or even revolvers for that matter but they have always interested me. I was just wondering what this gun was worth and maybe some info on how old it is. How do you read the serial number to figure out a year of production? It does have Monson, Mass stamped on the side. From what I have read that was the first place of manufacturing. I can post the serial number if needed. Any info would be appreciated and thanks in advance, Gavin

Hi Gavin and from another Kansan. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. We love or even uncool pics. Condition of the gun is going to have a huge effect on its value. Monson was the original plant so the gun was made prior to 1993. Detailed records of serial numbers by year of manufacture are not available from the factory. However, we have been compiling a list of serial numbers from reliable sources here https://www.danwessonforum.com/dwf-content/files/DanWessonSerialNumbers.pdf
The link is also on the right side of your screen as part of the Dan Wesson Forum Serial Number Registry box.
Again, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum, you came to the best place around for info on your Dan Wesson. Values are difficult to pinpoint, depending on condition, geographic area, barrel length, and whether it is blued or stainless. I'd say at the price you paid and with some ammo thrown in you got a very good deal that is very cheap for a .44.
Like 95X said, check out the serial # chart and there are lots of other posts and forums here with great info. And quite a few very knowledgeable DW owners who are great at answering any specific questions you have

Thanks for the welcome guys. I guess I should have put that it has an 8 inch barrel, vented rib and is blued. I looked over the serial number list and I am guessing mine is from around 1983-1984, just going off the other numbers. I have no bill of sale or paperwork to go with it, so there is no way I can be sure. The serial number is BO1985x. Were the barrels marked with the same serial number in the packs? I was gonna try and find other barrels and shrouds to add to the gun. Thanks again, Gavin
I'll try and post some pics later.

Hey, Welcome to Dan info central. Great price on a 44 from what little I have seen since joining the Dan Club earlier this year. I have my antennas up for a 44 myself, Passed on a 357 in good condition so as to reserve any funds for a big gun. You will not get away without showing us some pics !.
