I bought a couple pistols in the mid 90s. One was a gold series with 3 intials and a number. The other he said "was a prototype 'desert eagle''. Just was wondering if anyone knew more about the 'desert eagle". It is a stainless .44 revolver.

Hey, tracor...

First...do you know if your revolvers are Dan Wesson? Might seem like a dumb question but you don't say so in your post.

Second...if you will post pictures of what you have someone will be able to help you.

Third...if you go here https://www.danwessonforum.com/faqs/ you can learn how to post pictures.

May your days with DWF be as rewarding as mine...

Tracor sent me some pics, what he has is a Gold Series .357 and a 44 mag  with fixed comped barrel and a  unfluted cylinder

These were originally from a DW employee with custom serial numbers with his initials and a #,

common practice for choosing your own serial number back then

To answer the original question, I have never known of a Dan Wesson revolver identified as "desert eagle".

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Very nice set of pistols. The 744 is very unique with the unfluted cylinder and cool shroud that had to be factory being a fixed barrel. Never seen one like that but I think it looks good. They should have made it an option.

I wonder if the original seller might not have meant that this was a .44 mag around before anybody even thought of Desert Eagles??

As far as a Desert Eagle the only ones I know of are the Magnum Research semi autos. They made them in a bunch of calibers and are still produced. They are the only gun that can put out a muzzle blast close to the .445 SM that I have shot.

It has very little recoil for a 44 mag but it is pretty loud. I looked at lots of pics but didn't see any with vented barrel like it.

The comp barrels do that, real loud but less muzzle flash. Again you have a very rare BA on your .44. I wonder if it was a custom by the employee that ordered it? Hold on to it.
