.22 LR desires .22 WM:
Around 1976; my Dad, a master printer traded printing for a brand new .22 LR 6” on what appears to be similar to an S&W .357 “N” frame. He’s now 84 and has always wanted the interchangeable .22 WM cylinder. I’d like to fulfill his wish. Where might I find a blued one? I love the weapon! When I was 19, on leave from the U. S. Army, Alaska; I looked out the chicken yard to see an owl taking off with a prized hen, I took aim and fired twice hitting the owl of the fly in both head and heart. Our great prize hen was saved. The accuracy, balance and ease of point and shoot made a tricky but necessary shot at 20 yards possible. Im no great shot, but that day my Dads DW was the right weapon in my hands. It seemed to take over my inadequacy and made my shot deadly. Since, I’ve loved that one of my Dads arms. DW has always a special place with me. This forum is a real informative treat!
Those darn owls. Foxes are worse. I suspect your father acquired the gun a few years later. The 22 debuted in 1979. I found ( with help from Snake-eye) a 22 mag cylinder on Gunbroker. I paired it with a crane and now I have a 22 lr with interchangable cylinders. Fortunately, the timing was fine. I still have to take the sideplate off to swap them.
It is not as simple as a Ruger or other single action revolver. Finding a 22 mag cylinder will be difficult. I doubt the factory has any. The easiest way may be to have a 22lr cylinder bored out to 22 Mag. Every once and a while a 22 cylinder shows up on ebay. Buying a 22 Mag revolver will be a pricey exercise. Quicker and cheaper to buy another 22 lr and have it bored out. Then you will have 2 guns and be twice as happy. It is called a good start.
