I  just discovered your site. I have a DW .44 that I bought new in 1981. I'm not sure that I would want to sell it but I have not fired in in over 15 years. I think I may have put 2 or 3 hundred rounds through it. I was wondering if anyone on this site would know what it was worth.

Thanks Neil

Welcome!  Wow, it seems flawless - nice gun~!

Sure looks like a beauty.Welcome Maybe once you look around here, you'll have a hankerin' to go plinkin' soon.Cool

Just judging from what they seem to go for on the online sites, I would imagine that it's value would be in the $475-550 range. Possibly a little more.

Beautiful looking .44 there. I think Charger Fan's value is about right, but I've seen them go for quite a bit more at times. Something that nice, I would want to shoot a lot...hard to get rid of a Dan Wesson.

Neilm,

What a beauty!  New in 1981!  Those were great years for DW's.

What is the serial number, if you don't mind?

Being that you are the original buyer will REALLY help us correlate Serial Number Vs Date of Manufacture for the records here.

You may know that all the original records ceeded to the BATF when the company closed the first time. (& second too, for that matter…)

and Welcome to the DWF, great to have you as a member!

Ah...I just figured out how to reply to my post. Thanks for all the comments. The value ballpark is great. I'm not sure that I even want to sell it. I was just sorting through everything and realized I havent fired it in a long time.

Great site and great information.

Neil- beautiful pistol, but are my eyes fooling me? It just looks shorter than 8" in that photo.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Was it '80 or '81?  Or “other”?

.44's first shipped late in the year 1980

After the question about the serial number I started looking through my records. Interstingly enough I found the original sales receipt and it was purchased on 04-13-1981 in Franklin Park Illinois. The original price was $425.00.

Hey Neilm - treasure!  Thanks much for the information!

It doesn't get more complete than that!

Time to take that baby down to the range to "refresh" the feeling...
