Welcome. Give us some background. Is this your first dan.
This is not my first DW. I had a 15 as my first handgun and very unwisely parted with it. I am making amends!
I just picked up the faire damsel and she is a beaut. Very light wear. Fired, but not much. From what I understand it sat in a drawer for 20 plus years. Unfortunately no tools or paperwork, but I'm not complaining. As soon as I figure out how I'll post some pics.

The faire damsel has a five digit s/n 275XX, and is from Monson. The bluing is really nice. The only nick I see is about 1mm right below the cylinder. She won't be a "safe queen" and I'm eager to take her out for a date with a box of cartidges.
Question for y'all: anyone know a really good gunsmith in VA that handles Dan's?
Whoa! Unless you are considering some fancy customizing you probably don't need a gunsmith. Plenty of knowledge and help on the forum. What are your concerns or desires? My wife appropriated my High Standard Sentinel mk 11( same as your 14 4") beater I cleaned up. She (a LE Instructor in a past life) pronounced it the sweetest and most accurate gun she ever fired. Enjoy.

I just want to make sure who I take it to for cleaning and/or fixes isn't a butcher. I have to admit that while I really enjoy shooting sports and firearms, I hate cleaning and taking them apart. Just not my thing.
Once I put hands on ol' pork chop earlier today, it was....the perfect fit. So I reckon that these might become addictive. Relatively inexpensive, very nice, definitely old school.
Carl Lewis designed dan wessons to be so simple as to rarely need the services of a gunsmith. EWK Arms sells great barrel wrenches and Lowes has allen wrenches. The forum's " average Joe tuneup" pictorial will guide you. It is REALLY easy. I would not trust a smith. If you don't want to do it, send it to Dan Wesson and rest assured it will be done right.

VCDL ...,
I see you online now and I hope you will see and understand the advice being given to you by the DWF Members.
Many of us have followed the Average Joe Tuneup to a greater or lesser degree (in my my case I am an "all in" and repeat offender) and in every case the gun ends up being a better, more consistent shooter.
DW revolvers are very user friendly, unlike the gunsmith intensive Smiths and Colts
I have done the AJT procedure several times, and in every case I ended up with a better gun than I started out with, and probably a better gun than Dan originally manufactured.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome Chip! I echo everything posted above and I also acknowledge your detest for tearing into the gun works. My advice, if you are dead-set against it, is to print out The Average Joe Tuneup and take it to any competent gunsmith in your area. More than likely, they'll need it anyway. But on the other hand, I would encourage you to try it yourself. You will learn more about the Dan and save money at the same time.
Regards, Ron
