Hello everyone, my names Will. Just wanted to introduce myself to the forums. I recently had a Dan Wesson .357 given to me from my mother, she had it since I was born in 1984. She bought it used, my father said it was part of a pistol pack. I guess my mother felt the need to get rid of the other barrels, tools and box. I believe it's a 14-2, correct me if I'm wrong.
I want to put the original style handles it would have had in the late 70s or early 80s. What style should I use? Target? Service? Etc.?

One of the two on the right hand side would probably be close to original. DW was changing grip styles pretty regularly in the late 70's and early 80's. Not sure of when yours was "born" the S/N is not clear in your pictures.
Yours has the Pachmayr Gripper, easily the most desirable of the aftermarket rubber grips.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome, that is a keeper, and as Steve pointed you in the right direction! Hey you maybe able to trade out the grippers for 2 or 3 different wood handles! Some here may have a need for the rubber ones!
Look around that pac may be stuck away filled with old Christmas cards and BA's!
Now if you wanted the best after market grips check with LB on the side bar and if you don't have the barrel wrench check EWK over on the right side bar too!

If I sent you the S/N could you tell me when it was made? I called Dan wesson and they had no way to date it via the S/N.

Will Check the side bar with SN info it should be between some of them or PM it to Steve he is the one!
So I sent him a PM, we shall see what he says. But if I was to go off my serial number 3342xx, it would put it around 1982-84. So lets that with some grips from that time period, which is my better option? I want to keep the rubber grips, for their nostalgia but their too small for my hands to comfortably use target shooting. Thanks for all the help everyone

Gun Broker or ebay for grips or put out a call on here under wanted see what you can come up with!
I can find them, that's not the issue. I was just trying to get what would have originally been on the firearm, would love to see it restored to its original style. Wasn't sure if there was a specific grip used on the 14-2 in that time period. Thanks

Here is a pic from a Gunbroker auction a few months ago of a 14-2 pac just missing the 8" barrel. Wasn't mine so I can't say it was all original but it looked right to me.
I have a 14-2 (not from a pac) it came with a rather fat plain wood grip with no medallion. Like the others said, Dan Wesson used many styles of grips over the years and it would be impossible to say exactly which style was used any particular time period.

For pure "shootability" it would be the Pachmayr Gripper, and you already have one!
If you have moderately large hands, the best choice in a wood grip would be the DW Target Grip, Zebrawood is the nicest looking of the DW Grips.
When you're ready for the BEST, get in line for an LB grip

He's not kidding when he says BEST. I have a Gripper on my 715 and 741 and a Speed Grip for my 715 when I put on the 2.5" barrel.
The LB Gripper is my recommendation for your Dan.
