Since I recently started reading this forum, I "rediscovered" my 715VH (4" and 2.5" barrel) that I have stored in a safe since about 1991. I bought the gun new back in 1987/88. When I worked narcotics, I had swapped the 4" for a 2" for better concealment, plus I slapped on a Pachmayr grip. I still have the original, unused grip . It went in to storage shortly after we transitioned to the HK P7M13. Over the years, I take taken it out once in a while to clean/oil it, but it has not been fired since.
The reason I started reading this forum is because I had actully thought about selling it along with the holsters, speedloaders, etc. However, thanks to everyone here, I am 99% certain that I will be keeping it.
I still have the original barrel wrench and feeler gauge, but I just ordered a new one from EWK. BTW, I just looked at the box for the 2" barrel, and it cost me $88.65 back then.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi to my fellow DW enthusiasts out there.

Very nice model 715, I would say that it is a keeper for sure. And one of my favorite grips too, Pachmayr Gripper. You did well by ordering an EWK wrench, save the plastic one. Thanks for sharing pics, as a Dan Wesson enthusiast you have found the right place to hang out.

I hope to take it to the range the next time we do our qualification. BTW, I still have some old .357 and .38 from way back when. Do you think the age of the powder will have any corrosive effect on the gun?
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of anyone carrying (or had carried) a DW as a duty weapon? We were issued S&W Model 10 with 4" barrel. It was a decent enough duty gun, but...

Welcome to DWF. 715 4VH + Pachmayr Grippers= As close to perfect as you can get.
Since you are the original purchaser, would you consider supply some info for our Serial Number Registry?
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I haven't heard too many stories about it.. but by the looks of some the model 14's ( service revolver) they certainly have been carried (holster wear).
You it seems some feller had a near about matched pair of the 715 he had. Somethig about one was his carry and one was his spare. I think he sold them for a tidy sum.
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

I think Pinetor's right about the 715s, didn't Shoot get them?
Here are two pics of a High Standard (made by Dan Wesson)I bought recently at a gun show, it is heavily holster worn, I am sure it has a story to tell if only it could talk. I can't imagine a private citizen carrying a sidearm that heavy enough to wear it like that.

Man that's a tough looking 4 incher nice
I'm sure some "what you choose and can qualify with" LEO has carried
a DW, but we have never heard yet about any office or department issuing
a DW side arm.
Don't think any ammo from the 80's would be corrosive unless of course
it is some imported stuff and then it may have those corrosive primers.
I've shot alot of old closet kept ammo way older than the 80's
with no problem.

Thanks to all for your encouraging comments and for making this FNG feel welcomed. I just went from 99% keeper to 100% keeper. Since I carried the 2" while working plainclothes/off duty, the 4" shroud practically never spent time in a holster. Holster was somewhat hard to find at the time, but the Bianchi #5BH was form fitting.
BTW, the old ammos that I have are either Federal or Winchester .357 or .38+P+. Good news about no corrosive factor.
Lastly, (1) would it be smart to have a gunsmith give a once-over before I take it to the range as it has not been fired is about 20 years; and (2) does the EWK flash hider really makes a difference or is it more of a cool factor thing?
