Just joined the forum. Picked up a 6" .22 DW last weekend. It's a Monson gun with S/N 11XXX. Decent shape on the outside, a couple minor nicks & scratches, but it appears the previous owners didn't spend much time clean'n. After a quick scrub down I took it to the range for initial shakedown. I'm impressed with the accuracy at this point. I 'm hoping with some clean'n and tweak'n I can shrink the groups even more. I'll start asking the technical questions in the appropriate topics.
As for myself, the hair is gray and I spend more time think'n about retirement while I'm at work than I really ought to!
I do some hobby gunsmithing and being an engineer I figure I can take most anything apart.
My priorities in life are: God, Family, Guns and then it doesn't hurt to have a cold beer or six handy.
Godspeed
P.S. Yes, I'll post a picture of the gun soon....

Welcome to the forum! You seem to have the same priorities and thoughts as me ( 18 months from retirement). We have several here that are extremely handy I suspect you can expect some great conversations.
Soap Box, Ballot Box, Ammo Box
in that order.

Thanks for all the good words.
I need to get a EWK barrel nut tool to totally strip the gun down.
I'm a little apprehensive about taking the barrel off seeing how this gun was not maintained very well. I suspect the barrel/shroud has never been off this gun.
Back in the day...I previously had another DW 22. But somehow, something else caught my eye and off it went to the barter arena.
I've always been a fan of the DW's so now that I finally have another one. I'm promising to myself it will get passed down before ever going to the barter arena!

Removing the shroud and barrel should not be a problem as long as the gun is in generally good condition. Use a good barrel wrench, maybe drop a little penetrating oil around the nut a couple of days in advance if you're really concerned. Keep the barrel wrench firmly in place so it cannot easily slip off the slots.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Glad to hear there are other Hoosiers and former Hoosier DW fans out there.
I lived down on the Ohio in Madison for 16 yrs, then a brief stint in the anti-gun commie state of illinois and now back to Lafayette.
And just to make MR835 happy, I lived in Memphis, Tn for 4 years before heading back north to the land of the Hoosiers.
Regards,
