I joined a couple of weeks ago. I've been shooting friends guns for decade (got lots of gun nut friends) but finally bit the bullet a month or so and got my first gun, a Sig Sauer P229. However I've had my mind set on a Dan Wesson 38 revolver (trivia points to anybody who can guess why). They're not the most common thing to find, but I scored one on GunBroker today so I guess I'm now a DW-owner. In a weeks or two I should have it in my hot hands!

Welcome to DWF, I owned a 229 DAK for several years. It was a good gun, but bigger/heavier than I liked for carry, and I had purchased a nice S&W 9mm that took it's place.
Once you get your .38, give us a look at it if you are so inclined.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Greetings Ronald,
Where in NoVa are you? I grew tall in Alexandria, I also have a few Sig's (but no 229.) Welcome to the forum. Regards, -d

I'm out route 50 across the street from Moore Cadillac roughy (if you know where that is). Not to far from Blue Ridge Arsenal but I shoot mostly at Elite (I can be there in ten minutes or so on the back roads here)..
Tortilla Factory is in Herndon and I'm pretty sure it's still there though I've not been in a long time. I'm more of an Anita's fan. Yeah, I know the Del Ray area well, got some friends who live down there.

I know the area, I used to get tickets all the time cause I took the wrong exit on 28 and ended up on some special restricted road for Dulles or something (it has been many, many years.) How is NoVa now? when I was a kid it started at Franconia-Springfield, but my friends tell me Northern Virginia extends all the way down to Quantico now. 95 must be a parking lot, I do not miss the traffic.
Regards.

It's not too bad. They added extra lanes and a reversable center HOV/toll lane.
They've widened US-50 by my house to three lanes in each direction. I work out of the house and most of the time when I leave I head SW on US-29 (I have a house near Charlotte NC where I'll eventually retire to).

Well I didn't know anything about Robert Crais until you posted and I googled. I did watch Hill Street Blues religiously back in the day. I guess his novels have something to do with detectives carrying 38spl?? Excepting for what's called the lil Dan (which is a downsized revolver), the only Issue I have with a DW 38spl is that it's the same physical size as the DW 357mag, which can also shoot 38spl +P.
On edit - Mike, would that actually be a Model 8? (if it's a 38spl)

Yeah, Crais goes back a long way. I saw his name on a Quincy ME episode the other day. Elvis Cole is a private detective that is the main character in most of his books. He carries a Dan Wesson 38 Revolver (in a shoulder holster) without much more explanation than that. His partner, Joe Pike, carriers an assortment of guns predominantly a Colt 357 Python. I guess I identify with Cole more.
They're good books. There's like 15 of them in the Elvis Cole/Joe Pike series but a couple of his books that aren't in the series: Suspect and Demolition Angel are exceptional standalone novels.

Well, I've got my Mickey Mouse phone sitting on my desk now for you Elvis Cole fans. I'm getting better with my Dan (still not as good as with my Sig). Boy, if I cock it and use it SA it's an extremely light touch.
I've got the mechanism from Klockit.com for my attempt to build the Pinnochio clock.

Normally, I'd be inclined to close this, it's gone wildly off Topic (not like I've ever taken us off topic ), but it has taken on a life of it's own. We went from a guy who got a DW .38> Sigs>another Ron>Alexandria>Tortilla Factory>Issac Walton League>bunny's traffic tickets>extra lanes> Robert Crais (13 posts in)>Elvis Cole>Hill Street Blues>Quincy, ME>Joe Pike>Mickey Mouse phone>Pinocchio Clock>?????
Frankly, it's been pretty entertaining, and I guess this particular New Member Topic (and I express the greatest appreciation to Ronald for going to New Members first) is now pretty much of a Free Fire Zone.
Rock On!
It's Still Fun,
Steve
