As a new owner (almost) of a Dan Wesson Arm's .357 and new member of the Forum, I wanted say Hello.
A neighbor of mine is "down sizing" and asked me if I would check out a couple guns to make sure they were safe to fire, since I am an NRA Instructor and collecting "Armonr's" certifications on the various guns in my "Instructors Collection." The guns were: a LLAMA .45 (Spanish knock-off of a 1911) and a stainless 357 revolver. My neighbor's father had given him the guns and he had never fired either. The LLAMA was old and hammer would drop with the slightest jarring of the frame. But the revolver seemed to be in good condition. Dave asked if I could get a "Value" on the two guns. The LLAMA was easy (well, as easy as a rattle trap dangerous gun could be), "...next time the LEO's have a gun turn in, turn this in!!"
The revolver was another story. After 2 days of digging through the internet, I stumbled on this site... and it is GOLDEN!
After digging through the Forum site and a PN to one of the members, I have been able to determine that this is a 715 with a 4" Vented Heavy (?) barrel. I am still not sure of a complete valid model number or what a good price would be. I have found a couple prices for other DWA, however, I haven't found any photos with prices/bids of like this one. Anyone willing to provide a guess? I have promised Dave that whatever fair price that I find is... that is what I will pay him. I would note that it did not come with a barrel tool or any gauges.
A little of my background, besides being an NRA Instructor; I have worked for the USG for 40+ years "doing bad things to bad people" (via the military, as a civil servant, or as a contractor). If you can think of a nasty place on the globe that NatGEO hasn't made into a 1 hours special, I have probably been there. Most of the time, tote'n "plates," ammo, and a couple "toys." That said, none of my toys has included revolvers... but if this 715 shoots as good as people on the site claim, I might be a convert!
Cheers / Guano
Welcome to the forum and I hope you end up with the gun. Be aware that there is a particular obsessive compulsive disorder that accompanies the ownership of one of the world's greatest Revolvers and certainly the most accurate double action production revolver made. It is called Dan Wesson Acquisition Syndrome, or DWAS for short. The very fact that you joined the forum puts you at grave risk of uncontrolled collecting of all things Dan Wesson. Okay, you are warned.
You have a model 715. 4VH. A 4 inch barrel with a Vented top rib and a full length underlug. The 4"VH is the most desirable barrel assembly as determined by market value. I would estimate the value as between 650 to 850. If you sold the frame and BA separately you may get the higher figure. 650 is the lowest I think you would net selling it on Gunbroker.

Hi Leslie, welcome to the forum. Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself and giving us some background. Kudos for pics in your first post. The guys have identified it for you and have given you a fair price range. Of course, price is affected by all of the usual variables, but it looks to be a nice 715 in the pictures and in the right auction could go as high as 850-900. 4" is pretty desirable.
Since DWAS is highly virulent with no known cure, I recommend you ship the offending pistol to me immediately to minimize your potential risk of infection. No need to thank me.

Welcome to DWF, that is a pretty nice looking 715, from the photo's it seems to be pretty clean and in good condition.
I'm a little closer to pete on fair price, not the original wood grip and no barrel tool, $550 would be very fair to your friend on a face to face sale (no FFL/sales tax/transfer/postage...)
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The reason I said as high as 850-900, is one almost identical to that sold locally not too long in that price range. Hence the caveat about all of the usual variables. You just never know.....

Welcome Guano, from the Show-Me state. Thanks for your service. It is a nice 715 4VH. I recently bought 715 VH6 for 525 plus shipping. But Gun Broker sales are going n the 650 plus range. I agree with Steve given no original grip , no tool, gauge or docs, $550.00 would be a fair offer on your part. If he takes it you should then sell it to me for a modest profit, thereby avoiding the looming infection of ! If you shoot it you will be hooked! And once infected, as you can tell by these responses, you will become passionate to the point of!

Two things...
1) ya'll should have voiced the "sell it before you shoot it" comment louder and sooner.
2) I doubt that it'll be on the market any time soon (although I will probably be looking for a 744 in the near future so the 715 won't be lonely)... I just need to figure out how I can parley another DWA with my Bride. Maybe I'll tell her that the 715 is for her (replacing the Colt Trooper we had as newly weds) and tell her that I need a 744... 'cause they should be bought as "pairs."
BTW: My neighbor located another 4" DWA on the web selling for $295... I told him that it wasn't a fair price, however, Dave said "it is the price I found and I would just be taking advantage of you charging more for a gun I got for free."
Here is the last load of 6 from last night. Did a write up on the Range section of the Forum / Guano
